The basic profile that is in TuDiabetes doesn’t really give us the flexibility and features we used to have under the old platform. I’m going to describe a way for each of us to write a really flexible profile that supports all the advanced features of posts (like links, photos and videos) as well as provides an opportunity for comments on members profiles like we used to have.
Here are the steps.
Create a topic with your profile in the “Share You Stories ” category, you can title it whatever you want but I suggest you name it “Profile for MemberName.” Examples include Profile for Brian (BSC) and Profile for MarieB . Note that you can put in links to your own blog.
Once you have written your profile, “copy” the link to the profile (the link to my profile is Profile for Brian (BSC) ).
Then click “Edit Personal Information ” (you can also get to it in “profile” and then “preferences” under your avatar. In the field for “website” paste the link to your profile. You can also fill in a short description of “More About Me.” In that description you can also put in a link by just pasting the text for your profile (which I have done) or you could actually post in a link to your blog or website. Only the first couple of lines of your “More About Me” will appear on your pop up card but the full text will appear on your discourse profile page. When you are done just click “Update.”
So here is how it will work. If you click on my avatar you will get a pop-up card. You will see that if you select my avatar on my pop up card you will be brought to my main summary page. It has a link directly to my blog. If you go to my profile you will see a more extended “More About Me” including the hyperlink to my profile. If you click on the website link it will bring to “Profile of Brian (BSC) ”
And just so the example is clear, here is the text I put into my “More About Me” box:
Diagnosed in 2005 I’ve been through a maze of diagnoses, bizarre medical treatments, learned about low carb and become a diabetes advocate. See my blog http://brian-the-bsc.blogspot.com/
For more information visit my personal profile page above ( Profile for Brian (BSC) ) which has an extensive profile and a place to comment on my personal profile page.
I really miss being able to click on someones profile and see their story. It makes them a much more real person. And hopefully this will bring us back to a way of leaving personal comments for each other, I know some of you missed that.
I’d like to ask everyone here in the Lounge to try to do this to their profile and post back to this thread as a roll call. In your experiments if you find improvements, please post those as well.
A number of members have done this already (MarieB , Brian_BSC , Lorraine , CatLady06 , DrBB ., Terry4 ), and I’d like to encourage others to read their stories, say hello, and then go ahead and share their own!
