Unload time…well, I went to see my endo and my a1c has come down quite a bit. Not under 7, but that is my goal for next time. Having said that, life gets in the way…I’ve started up a new exercise routine and have thus far managed to find time to drag myself to the gym twice a week. Yeah, I should do it more but I think twice a week beats not at all! My blood sugars are pretty stable during the workouts but several hours later, as I’m recovering from the feelings of being hit by a Mack truck I get absolutely starving, go on the refrigerator raid and up go my bgs. I am definatly not losing weight with these workouts. Primarily I am in it for the cardio + weight training, but losing a few pounds would definatly be a benefit. Post dinner today…306. Crud. Its pretty depressing to see high bgs when you’re taking the steps to get them better. School keeps me busy too(two exams this week). Where are all those benefits of exercise?(more stamina, better bgs) Mag.levels are doing ok. I think I’m just tired and cranky and ready to see some results.

try eating alot of protein before your workouts, this will keep you full of energy and wont cause that immediate spike and fall like a carb would do, rather they cause your blood sugars to gradually raise so you will not be starving after a workout

Heidi,
Congrats on your resolve to exercise. I know this is a hard thing to keep up on. I read your post about being hungry and having high BS after your work outs. What has worked for me is to eat 6 small meals a day. I.E. breakfast 1 package low sugar oatmeal, 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, 16 oz water. 2-3 hours later lowfat cheese stick, 1 container lowfat yogurt, 2-3 hours later lunch, turkey sandwich, water, about 3hrs later, apples and natural peanut butter, then a lean dinner. If you are able to work out in the mornings you may be able to get the best results. If not, it is generally good to eat a good source of protein about 15-30 mins after working out. This will help your appetite and keep your BS from soaring. I have learned this from experience. I hope this will help you. GOOD LUCK!!
