Most ppl here know me. I have this thing about 13 being an unlucky number and have heled off for awhile about putting up another post. (Yes it's my 13th.) but after reading some of the things ppl have said here about a "cure" I just gotta do it.
I was told in 1973 that a "cure" was only 10 years in the making for diabetes. I went on with that in mind for a LONG time. Then I done the Pancres Transplant (after having 2 girls I DIDN'T want to see have this problem) for not only me but for other's out there and my kids all at the sametime. Thought I had found the "cure" til 2 years later and the 7th rejection episode and totally lost the organ, Diabetes came back just as strong as it was before. My Drs at a major hospital (for TN anyway) tried me on the Type 2 meds for exactly 2 hours then decided it had came back full force. So now even though I had that 2 year "vacation" from Diabetes I still consider myself as having it for 37 years. (ugh those 2 years involved loads more than the transplant. 'nuff said that 4 times a day I had to take 20 pills, I won't talk about the pain, or hospital treatments involved) Anyway my family of 4 get back on track right?
Ugh NO. At the age of 11 my oldest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. (She was born missing her left hand and I thought that God wouldn't do that to her but it happened) Now I got to contend with the fact I gave birth to her and I thought the diabetes had something to do with her missing her left hand only to find out when she was 19 that it was caused by a bloodclot she had formed in the womb. (Whole other story there. She ios now 22 and the proud mother of 3 kids (my g-kids) AND is a CNA) You youngsters must understand that waaaay back when there was no ADA act out there and you could get fired for not telling your boss about your diabetes
Anyway enough of my rambeling. She had made me PROUD!!! All I want to say here is PLEASE NEVER let the diabetes win! Show it how STRONG you are and you will NEVER give into it. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Just prove to yourself and other's IT CAN BE DONE!!!!! GO FOLKS!!!!
Oh dear Doris, my friend… I have always admired your courage and positive attitude despite many challenges in our lives…And indeed our blessings comes in different packages…yours came from 3 beautiful angels!
You are a inspiration Doris…love you and appreciate all that you do for TuD. Words of wisdom. BTW…I will always win, knocking this “D” on it’s booty! (most of the time) xo
You know my 1st granddaughter was born on Friday the 13 in October! I guess all that bad luck went away that day! Thank you Teena, Gerri, and Robyn for such insperenational comments!
My Goodness you have been through so much, but came out strong and full of understanding:) there is Joy to be found in all our days, and our lives:) and to be honest the one that is a wondeful joy is our kids and it gets even better, Our Grandchildren, there faces and smiles can wipe out any bad in a day, there Hugs and Kisses and Love makes our Hearts Red with Happiness:)
Thank you for sharing your story:) I have a 13th story, my Brother is 13 days and 1 yr older than me, and my younger sister is 5 yrs and 13 days younger than me. I also had a Surgery on Friday the 13th to find why I was bleeding internally. I was near death, but I lived, then fast forward, in 98 I had a Tumor on My Adrenal galnd, the Surgery was on Friday the 13th, and as risky and deadly as the surgery was, I lived. So the 13th or 13 is a Number I smile at:)
I love reading stories of people who overcome the lums and bumps of life, it helps me face this Diabetes each day and be strong:) so thank you, and keep taking care of you:) Debbie
Oh Doris - the dream for that ‘cure’ - I somehow remember hearing that in 1962 ‘we’re working on it’ - we each have made our own ‘cure’ for handing this D, and together are a fantastic group!! I’m not waiting for that cure, Im loving life with the package I was given!! NancyR
