Good idea on changing our prescription and getting one extra box of cartridges per month. I only get one more order in 2017 before seeing what plans and DME I can get in 2018. That makes me more nervous than anything.
Animas did say to expect supplies until 2019 and that they felt any insurance company would help us obtain a new pump after that 2019 dates. There again, who knows what DME we will have then!
@Laura_S - Do you know for sure that your insurance changes at the new year (2018) or is it an unknown as to what your situation will be?
(I hate just not knowing and having to wait to find out.)
Weāre on the exchange right now and they are proposing a huge rate increase. I had great benefits for DME in 2017, terrible in 2016. Who knows! Rates should be out by November.
Weāre self employed soā¦
Terry4, very helpful post. Agree that a backup plan is essential for all pump users. Problems I have found include insurance coverage for pens, and for Insulin as the prices are skyrocketing.
Have you found any issues in this regard?
Thank you
I fill my cartridges from pens - and I PUSH the insulin into the cartridge ā that makes it easy to overfill the cartridges by 10-20u which fills the tubing. I then prime with only 1u. I regularly get 192-198 units from a cartridge that way.
Iām really hoping to get my hands on a Dana RS as soon as possible somehow!! My hopes lie with that or Bigfootās AP to be available to me before my Vibe is no longer usableā¦
My daughter is currently using Animas Ping pump. She is 13 years old. We have been an animas customer since she was 3 years old. Within the last 2years we got a CGM, Dexcom. I absolutely love Dexcom G5 and they have great customer service. I feel like Dexcom has given me a piece of mind, and occasionally sleep at night, lol. However, I am in a major debate on which pump we should go withā¦ I feel like Medtronic 670 is probably the one we should choose but I am hesitaten. I hear conflicting reviews and none from parents with teenagers. Frankly I am scared to leave Dexcom, but need to pick a new pump. Her animas is out of warrenty, so no issue there. I realize we can go with Medtronic and keep Dexcom instead of their CGM, but then that would defeat the purpose of the closed loop system and helping with lows and highs. I would love to hear input from parents with teens on the Medtronic 670 or any other pump that you are loving; ominpod, tandemā¦ thank you for any input or advice. So stressful
I have a MM pump (used MM since 1996) and the Dexcom G5 (just got it about a month ago). Despite wearing 2 items and the fact they donāt ātalkā to one another, i have a SUPER ACCURATE sensor for the first time in my life. MM sensors never worked well for me in about 18 months of usage. I spent so much time swapping out sensors, waiting for the first calibration, so much time on the phone with tech support. They replaced MORE than 20 sensors because of failures. Iāve not needed to have any G5 sensors replaced. What good is it to have a sensor for a pump that ISNāT ACCURATE?? I say stick with the Dexcom. while asleep, the alarms (IMO) are better than relying on a SUPPOSED āclosed loopā (no itās not) pump. Also, MM pump alarms arenāt loud like the G5.
Thank you for your opinion. It helps a lot.
My Animas ping is also out of warranty & I plan to go with a Tandem pump. I already have a Dexcom, now covered by Medicare. The Tandem is also covered by my Medicare Advantage plan. Iād look at Tandem before making a decision.
We are on the Tandem t:slim X2 and the Dexcom G5.
The cgm is the most important part of a closed loop system in my opinion. I donāt care what features, bells or whistles the pump has. If we donāt trust the accuracy and reliability of the cgm then nothing else matters.
Yes, very true! Itās hard to give up Dexcom!!! I absolutely love the follow app. And the reliability. I am concerned with other companies such as Tandem and Omnipod not making it. I have read different discussions on that topic. But I am hoping to speak with reps from each company to review their product.
Does the tslim have a suspension option to, when blood sugars drop?
@Angie_Silvey - Tandem has the Predictive Low Glucose Suspend (PLGS) with a launch goal of Summer 2018. This would be a remote update to the X2 just as the recently released G5 integration was done.
