A1C and Diet

I was asked by another member how I was able to acheive an A1C of 4.7.

I currently see a dietician who specializes in diabetic nutrition. She works with my current Endocrinologist and they devised a strict meal plan. I have attached it for others.

If you need it in Carb form :

I consume approximately 179 grams of Carbohydrates which is 45% of my calorie intake
I have approximately 12 serving choices for carbohydrate
my protein intake is approximately 23% of my calories with 91 grams of protein consumed
Fat = 32% of calories - 57 grams

Total calorie intake is approximately 1600

I also work from home I work 8 am to 6 pm with a 2 hour lunch from 12 - 2.
During my lunch, I have a “work out buddy” and we go to the gym 5 minutes away from the home to work out for an hour, I come home and eat lunch and go back to work.

Wow! I wish I had a gym closer to my Job. I think that’s the only missing from my routine. When I lived in MO of was a lot easier to do because the Gym was 5 min from work and I could work out 4 about 45 min a day. I am in CA and can’t find a cheap gym:)
Thanks for Sharing

I attend Snap Fitness

they are great there!

I live outside a military base, so it’s very close by

Cherise, I live near a pool now, but for all the years before what I did for my daily exercise was just walk for 1/2 hour during my lunch hour. You can do that pretty much anywhere. It might not be as intense a workout as at the gym, but it is aerobic and it helps and is better than not exercising. And you can listen to the birds, see what nature is up to, see what the neighbors are up to ;-).

Thanks for sharing your meal plan and congrats on the awesome A1C!

At my old job I walked at lunch. I was just telling my co worker I needed to start walking at lunch again:) thanks for reminding me.

Cherise, if you don’t have hearth problem (in a cardiological sense, not the sentimental one…) you can do isometric exercises everywere you are (during a meeting, too!); isometric exercises lovwer your BG quicker and deeper than aerobic exercises. Note that they don’t give benefits to your circulation!

When I got a 4.6, my doctor called me up and told me it was much too low. He said I should try for at least a 5.5 and probably a 6. They won’t let me try anything different until I hit 5.5 (except, you know, reducing insulin intake).

Wait. Your doc said your A1C was too low!!! That is insane!! Try for a 6? That’s insane! I am just dumbfounded.

I feel better near 6 but that 4.7 was the first time I saw numbers that were WONDERFUL

After reading her other post about over-injecting insulin, I can see where the doctor might be coming from though (for that specific case)!

oh yes, makes sense now - I had a case of the forgetfullness

That’s amazing. I’m only allowed 130 carbs a day…work retail superstore dept. manager 7 - 4 and I work out about 20 min a day on my elliptical (shoulder problem prevents any longer) and yet i still can’t lose weight yet.
