So I am beginning my journey to try and get pregnant! I am pre-planning right now with my health care team! I have tons of support from my fiance and I can'T wait until that day finally comes! Right now my main focus is staying stress free or as little as possible and to maintain or lower my A1c levels! Right now I am pretty happy with my 7.2 but would love for it to be under 7! I am doing monthly blood work but just wondering if there are any secrets or tips to lower it? So glad to have found a site with people who can relate to what I am going through.
Welcome, Amanda!
Eating less carbs is the best way I know for better control & lowering A1c, along with exercise. Dr. Richard Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution changed everything for me. Jenny’s site & book are great www.bloodsugar101.com

Hi, Amanda,
My best blood sugar control “secret” is frequent testing (read on if you don’t already do this)- I am lucky that I pay a copay for my strips that is the same no matter how many I use. And by using the amazing lancing device- AccuChek Multiclix- my pokes aren’t painful at all.
I test when I wake, before and after (1 hr) every meal, whenever I feel off, and before bed.
After a while it becomes second nature- so much that I’ve accidentally tested twice in a row w/o noticing!
I have had T1D for 27 years now & am pregnant with my 2nd child- my A1Cs are always better during pregnancy- so much more the reason to be careful!
I was excited to read your post- so wonderful being ready for motherhood & all the extra work it is as a diabetic!
Best of luck & please drop me a line any time you want to compare notes!

Hi Amanda,
Last year I was able to lower my A1C by changing to easy things! First, I started taking my bolus for a meal 15 minutes before eating (before I would take it just when I was about to eat.) Second, I stopped eating a second helping and forgeting to bolus for that!
Happy planning,
Nadine
