A1CNow Experiences: How has yours been?

agreed. there are too many diabetics to not be able to simplify and improve blood testing at the least, especially for it costs. i’ve become a cynic with the medical community as it relates to diabetes, with this being one of the many reasons.

For anyone that doesn’t realize…a1c is a great tool BUT sometimes very highs averaged with average lows can = “false” #

i agree, but would like to add that it’s a moving average so the last 30 days will have a higher weight on the overal a1c.

i always found it odd that more testing units don’t just have a 120 day memory so you could calculate your own a1c without logging it all manually.

My A1CNow was 5.3%, and the labwork was 5.5%.

My most recent lab A1c was 6.0. The A1c Now gave me a reading of 5.7 on the same day.

Luckily, I have access to a Bayer DCA 2000+. I use it to track my A1c monthly, and to check how particularly good or bad weeks affect my overall A1c. It gave me a 6.0 on the same day.

On my second A1c, i used the A1cNow on the same day. Lab came back as 6.1 and A1cNow read 6.2 so pretty close there. I have another A1c lab in early August and will again run a test. if it comes back close again i plan on using the Bayer test once a month just to stay on top of things.

IF YOUR AIC IS REALLY AVERAGING 100 YOU BASICLY NOT REALLY A DIABETIC AT ALL

unless you are having a lot of lows, like many type1s do, that are bringing down the average…

Or perhaps using a CGMS and insulin pump he was able to get this kind of control through MUCH hard work (without necessarily having a lot of lows)…You will see people all over these forums that have type 1 diabetes and get this kind or even better control.

Except if you are taking insulin to GET those values. An A1c in the 5’s only indicates non-diabetes if you are taking no diabetes medications. And even then, it’s not always true – when I had my first signs of diabetes, I had an A1c of 4.8 – I just had to wait until it became severe for my doc to believe that I had diabetes.
