I get the concept, it's just very different than my pump cartridges.
In order to avoid air bubbles, I first carefully make sure I have filled my cartridge. You didn't mention what pump you use. I have used Medtronic and now use Animas. The Animas is, to me, a little more of a booger about air bubbles. I check the tubing daily for bubbles and if I see them then I just prime them out. If I am getting a lot of bubbles, I will pull out my cartridge and tap it with a pen until bubbles are at the top....then use the plunger to gently push them out.
