No, I am not a “victim” - Everyone has challenges in life, and when I came across this thread title last week, “Alternatives to Lantus”, it seemed like a good idea to “resurge it” in my ongoing efforts to obtain information on how others have managed with SWITCHING INSULINS, such as Lantus to NPH. I was NOT looking for “financial” information, and certainly was not looking for people to make assumptions on my personal situation (financial challenges or past failures in trying to obtain basic medical care) etc. If I was looking for that, I would have posted on a thread pertaining to financial programs. AND SINCE (some) people seem to ANYWAY insist on posting “financial stuff” and personal assumptions, I went as far as starting a new thread (to DIVERT that type of information there), in hopes this thread could stay on topic of “switching”, and NOT “financial advice”. Other thread I later started here: https://forum.tudiabetes.org/topics/2014-assistance-programs-to-help-afford-insulin-diabetic-supplies
Having been both a diabetic for 4 decades and a RN, I actually have much knowledge on patient assistance programs (and would have gladly, later on when I had more time, shared my experiences). I added some info just to get that other thread started, but right NOW really I am primarily interested in learning from others experiences with “SWITCHING”My most critical dilemma I need to solve ASAP, (once again)=HAVING INSULIN TO TAKE EVERYDAY. (My notes detailed that I’ve tried switching to Humalog several times but always failed). Obviously my actions + expectations (coming here for information on switching) was very wrong. At a time, (mine is VERY limited right now), when I least have tolerance for nonsense (assumptions, doors slammed in my face, or “financial program” advice, which I’ve already been subjected to enough for the past 1+ year), that seems to be what I’ve spent the most time responding to! In response to those who will LIKELY CONTINUE to post remarks such as “Good Riddance” etc. (your unsolicited OPINIONS on me + my life, based on usually wrong ASSUMPTIONS), YOU clearly made your point that I do NOT belong here, and YOU are very RIGHT. BTW, I’m sure there are others in my situation (needing info, when they do NOT have the privilege of health insurance, a physician + unlimited cash on hand), but unlike me they would probably not have been as foolish/naïve as I’ve been, (spending time I don’t have), trying to get information on other’s experiences with SWITCHING. Again, as I previously posted I got the idea (switching from Lantus to NPH) from a government disaster site: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/EmergencyPreparedness/ucm085213.htm
I simply wanted to find out how the “switch” worked out for several others (who switched for ANY reason whatsoever), so I could avoid unnecessary problems…Conclusion, if necessary, (if no money for Lantus and/or no prescription refill available when current bottle empty), I will just try “it on my own” and hope for the best (like I always do)- *Not something I would recommend for anyone to try unless they’ve exhausted ALL other options first)…And, To Sam, while I agree the world can certainly seem “cruel and unfair”, I know it can sometimes take just ONE person or event to change how we view life. “Hope” - “Faith” - “Positive Attitude” or whatever you want to call it, is what keeps many of us going (ALIVE) every single day, when it seems like they have nothing or nobody else.
