Animas exiting insulin pump market

I had the same thought and I haven’t completely written off pursuing it since I do have some time, but it really sucked to specifically see the reference to Kaiser not allowing it. I fear their policy may interfere with getting coverage for supplies, etc.

You don’t have to use Animas infusion sets. I actually use the Accucheck Ultraflex with my Vibe. They are manual insertion, though, and that would take some getting used to after the spring-loaded type. I find manual much more reliable, though.

It’s the lack of warranty coverage after 2019 (mine is up in 3/2021) and cartridge availability that is in question. Animas told me there will be none of that after 2019, but that your insurance company at the time will most likely help you out.

Really sad, our ability to chose what is best for us has become more limited. I know of three pumps no longer available: Cozmo, Accu-Check and now Animas. I don’t need all the stuff that Medtronic offers, I want a simpler pump, but lose because competition is being eliminated.

All I ever got from Omnipod was a fake pod to wear around and see if I enjoyed that.
Since I cannot reload the pod once it is on my body, it makes me less inclined to buy that pump. I don’t like the fact that should I lose the $6000.00 remote I cannot use the pump. I am trying to eliminate the amount of physical baggage I have to carry around with me at all times.

I think the remote is $500 but they are supposedly going to change it one day to a dummy smart phone type of deal. I dont use enough insulin to justify filling the thing and trying to suck it back out every three days. Too much work!

Based on what @Eric2 has said, there may be a HUUUGE price difference between the US version and the Canadian version.

Ahhh, ok!

Their minimum fill amount is 85 units for a 3 day supply. So if you are using much less than ~28 units per day, you do have some insulin waste. I agree, taking insulin back out is not a good prospect.

17 units per day!

Yeah you’d end up with a little waste there.
