I found these papers interesting as well. I had seen the second one. These two papers summarize workshops held by the Endocrine Society in 2009. The first paper essentially was a call for research into T2 subtypes and better individualized therapy. As far as I can tell, the paper fell on deaf ears. The second paper, which discussed the beta cell loss in T2, essentially backing up what DeFronzo has been saying for years did have some results and there is now a web site BetaCellsinDiabetes that is trying to follow on with that result.
