Best thing to do first

That is how I am with LOWS… and the same about always having something with me to eat! I get scared when I go down fast, and sometimes will overtreat just in case!! I have been in the 40’s too many times in the past and felt like I was going to die…I am way better now, and don’t have the real low LOWS!!

It is only something another diabetic could ever understand!

i’m still getting major lows -_- I keep on oversleeping everyday! My lantus must be to high, i’ve been trying to back down from it everyday with 2 units. Not sure what else to do. Could the lantus still be making me hungry after it eat a meal? or the times in between? Hmm

Everyone has good advice but I don’t see that anyone has suggested working with a diabetes educator to help you figure out your numbers; insulin to carb ratio, sensitivity factor, ideal target range etc. Doesn’t sound like your doctor is too helpful in this area but a diabetes educator can be. Keeping records help alot and the DE can help you figure them out and make adjustments on your own too. Just a thought.

there is a place literally a few minutes away from my house, but they charge money for sessions (which are usually handled by the hospital if you have trouble paying, a sliding scale). I’m not sure if i would like them or not, i didn’t like my last diabetes educator.

See, you just logged something and there’s a pattern!.
You go low at work because your job is physical, try lowering your insulin dose during your working hours.
Depending on the type of exercise (cardio vs. weights) you may go high afterwards but low later.

Find a way that works for you to track your readings, food and exercise. I hated those little logbooks, I was just okay with a notebook and then hubs got me a PDA for Christmas and I found a free BG tracking program for it and I use that faithfully.

I know we’re all different but you seem to take a lot of insulin. I shoot 6u Lantus at bed around 10 PM, 4u in the morning after the gym, around 9 AM and 1-3 units Novolog for meals

had a really bad week with lows, going to try again this week

It is hard to get back on the wagon! I’m struggling now too! Here’s to not giving up!!!
