BGStar (and Agamatrix) software on 64bit windows

Sanofi BGSTar, which is made by Agamatrix and rebranded, comes with a software compatible only with 32 windows. If you try to install it on a 64bit Windows, the installation rolls back.

I use SIDiary too, (http://www.sidiary.org/) which is a commercial software (20 euro yearly) which can download nearly every diabetic device data, but for BGStar it requires the BGSTar software being installed.

I "discovered" that SIDiary only requires the cable driver, the cable being as usual a USB-RS232 cable using a Silabs chip (link to silabs doc and driver download).

So I downloaded the driver from the link above (click the "tools" tab, file CP210x_VCP_Windows.zip), unzipped and, before running the exe installer, modified the slabvcp.inf file adding the "right" identification strings for the Sanofi cable (which is USB\VID_17F4&PID_AAAA ).

Now on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit I can download BGStar readings too, and merge them with my other glucometer brand and sync them online and with my android SIDiary app: that's good.

I attach the modified inf file, just replace the original before running the .exe install and say "OK" when windows recognise the driver is no more a valid signed driver (we changed a file, remember): just say you trust it and all is OK.

PS: the driver exists for linux and OSX too: if you find a software which implements the BGStar /agamatrix protocol you should be able to download on those OSes too.

2354-slabvcp.inf (4.12 KB)

I know technology is getting away from me when I read an entire post and don't understand one word. Starting with: Are you talking about a meter??

I'm talking about the software that comes with a meter (Sanofi BGStar, made by Agamatrix http://www.bgstar.com ).
It can be run only on windows 32 bit.
Now, using this modified driver and another software (www.sidiary.org) even windows 64 bit users can download and analyze their BG readings.

Sidiary told me they checked this method and will add this modified driver to their list of supported meters (link)

Hi Garidan,
Do you know if there is a workaround to install the BGStar Software on a 64 bit Windows 8 computer. I think the problem relates to the 32 bit device drivers? It says BGStar setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error. I have tried all the standard compatibility settings and also run as admin.
