I started insulin in December, so I’m still really a bit of a newbie. I am on a NPH/R regime, so actually my bolus “is” extended. I’m still following a pretty strict low carb diet, so the protein matters. So far the Regular actually seems to match my meals pretty well. If I had a “real” rapid insulin, I probably would experiment with an extended bolus.
Ugh Danny? I don’t know anything about what I’m talking about here but as for me? Chicken wings and Football are 2 things I just don’t like! LOL! I know, I know I’m weird! LOL!
I don’t mean to be judgemental or anything, but I just realized, this has over 30 grams of fat, isn’t that a lot?
Yogi
I think you are correct, my recipe contains 256 grams of fat and that can be a lot.
Perhaps it would not be a good idea to eat all 4 pounds of chicken wings alone in one sitting. Perhaps you could pace yourself?
ps. Of course I am joking, I one of “those people” who don’t limit fats in their diet, so I love me some wings.
It’s a good point, Yogi - however, if you do not have insulin resistance (i.e., are more insulin sensitive) and are on a very low carb diet, fat won’t hurt ya - in fact, you need it.
I, on the other hand, am extremely insulin resistant, so if I do the typical low carb / high fat & protein diet, the extra bolusing for fats makes me gain weight.
However, I loves me some wings once in a while and - hey - it’s the SUPER BOWL
I eat 10 chicken wings alone pretty often, from Wingstop. Of course, I’m not on insulin because I’m a T2 but they neither affect my BG nor my girlish figure.
Did I make it to the third quarter? urp Oh wait, the game didn’t start yet?
I agree I would want more zing in the wings but I am also certain that if there were a plate of them here, I would have to taste them to see?
I do not bolus for wings that are not breaded and have the traditional hot sauce which is not carb. I just bolus for the carbs I may eat with it (not for beer though because I go low later with a bolus for alcohol).
