Diabetes Leadership Conference in South Africa 30th September 2010

Diabetes Leadership conference in South Africa finally kicked off today in J'burg, south Africa. I have been praying fervently for the success of this meeting and finally it came up. Many persons from all over Africa will be presenting position statements and situation reports from different countries.

This Leadership summit is coming up shortly after the briefing of the US congress on the 27th by Dr Hawkins and co about the burden of diabetes in developing countries.

It is important that we in the developing world and indeed the entire globe let the world see the damage diabetes is causing and like the words of Ban ki moon, diabetes and NCDs are epidemic in slow motion, but I feel it is already in quick motion.

The beauty of this summit is that the communique released will serve as important tool the forth coming UN summit on Diabetes and other NCDs next year.

Let us continue to pray and work especially in advocacy to see that diabetes is accorded the rightful funding. It pains me when I see people on insulin who cannot afford to buy and those who cannot buy food even when you strife to donate insulin to them. Communique Issued at the summit needs to be circulated to all to help us sing common tune in different languages around the globe to make a common meaning.Lets keep the presure on!
