Generally managers/owners speak up if they see that you’re wasting food. As someone who lives in a tourist town with a lot of buffets I can say that I have seen managers say something to folk who fill their plates up, don’t eat all of it and then return to get more constantly. Sometimes there are signs, but generally it is understood that you’re not there to just waste food. I’ve been to buffets that did have the signs and that did not.
Most people who have gone to buffets understand that this is just part of the experience and/or don’t get upset when someone who works at the establishment tells them to stop getting big plates of food that they’re not actually eating. I’m more upset that this guy was flat out wasting food and not asking questions about what constitutes sushi. Because he as at the end of the day getting all you can eat sushi - he just wanted all you can eat sashimi which was not being offered by the place he was at. I also think that it is ridiculous that this guy wants to sue despite the fact that the owner was more then willing to work with him on lowering the price of his meal and got him what he had actually come in for, the raw fish/sashimi.
It is not making us look bad.
Nobody is asking that we are treated any more special than a person that has to eat gluten free foods and a vegan. Here in LA you see menus for these people all the time. You can go to a steak house and see a veggie menu. It is making people aware that diabetics do exist and we like to go out and eat like non diabetics. The perception of a Type 2 is that we should eat salad and tree bark everyday to “cure” ourselves and be normal. Of course this is silly.
If restaurants want our money and patronage they should at least offer diabetic friendly alternatives or even give the carb counts as you suggested. It amazes me how diabetics especially Type 1’s don’t mind being inconvienced. If you want carb counts on menus and such why hasn’t the ADA or other people mounted a campaign for it? As a Type 2 I just don’t want alot of rice. Restaurants have no problem catering to vegans, vegetarians, gluten free and other folks with dietary concerns.
Eat a plate of noodles for me!!! Happy B Day!!
I think the whole concept of “All you can eat” and the buffet eating trough should be eliminated. It just encourages people to eat more than what there body can handle. People eat at these type of places everyday and not once in a while. This is causing more damage to a person nutrition and teaching children bad habits.
