Diabetics and Cats

I have both a dog & a cat. The cat comes downstairs when the dog & I go up to bed at night and when we come down in the morning, the cat goes back up. Every once in awhile, she will actually spend time with us! Neither can detect hypos, but my dog gets upset when my Dexcom starts beeping. I had a couple bad lows in the summer and I think to him, the beeping is like “here we go again.” I had passed out and had EMTs here. The next time the Dex went off, he was shaking and went under the bed. Yesterday I was sick & crawled back in bed. I keep a down throw on my bed that he sleeps on but when he got on the bed, I had my back to his blanket & he came and put his head on mine and was rubbing his head on my hair. I think he knew I was sick because he has never done that one before!

I love animals. Cats, dogs, fluffy little rodents… amphibians… It matters not, to me. Growing up, our family always had dogs, fish, and birds because my mother hated cats. She thought/thinks they were from the devil. hehe I know, it’s awful. Today, I own a black kitty much like the black kitty you posted on here.

I have dogs & cats.

Liz your kitty almost looks like it has blue eyes! So cute.

I have 2 kitties (was three my third one just died about two months ago - still miss her)

Fluff RIP - 9/94 to 9/10

Pean

Woog

They can let when I am sick or sad. Woog lets me cry in her fur.

I have a sixteen year old, Lula whose personality may be even more quirky than my own! She’s never woken me up from a low at night. She is not the least bit hesitant to demand (and usually get) attention all day long, but has an enormous feline respect for sleep. As long as my eyes remain closed or I turn over she will leave me alone - except for being a chronic pillow thief. But soon as I am really awake she is Cuddle Central. She is very responsive to my moods during the day, but her usual approach is to either talk loudly with her siamese voice or express her undying love with head butts. “Not now, Lula” is not in her vocabularly.

Thanks for all the great cat and dog pics (I love them all too). One of these days I’ll figure out how to post pics.

Hi Linda,
I love cats as you can see by my profile page. Right now we have four, which is a bit of overkill…Their names are Rollo, Peeps, Joryee and Sam. None of them are in touch with hypos as they are just too busy by themselves. Sam has learned to open doors that have handles and I have had to change the door handles that lead outside.

Posting pics is easy! I had to ask that question once to. In the line about the reply box - on the left if has the B for bold, the last little black box thingy is what you click to upload your pics. Test it out and add your cat!

I had to put those child proof latches once to keep a cat I used to have from getting the cupboards open in my kitchen. The first night I did it, all I could hear all night was banging because it would open a couple inches and she couldn’t get it further. I guess she would give up then try again.

Sam, the Flame Point Siamese, also opens drawers and cupboards to see what’s inside. Gets to be a bit much in the middle of the night. He knows which drawer the kitty treats are in so now I have to hide them.

My kitty Woog is half Siamese. Weirdest cat ever and very curious with a loud voice. I definately would get another Siamese again.

I suspect mine has some Siamese in him. He LOVES people to the point of neediness, and he chats… boy does he chat! I talk back at him, and he always replies. I make up conversations with him about whatever … trying to show interest in whatever he’s saying. lol

Yeah, my Woog is a people cat too. She could care less about the other cat - they don’t get along. She is very talky too and likes to go around yowling like a wolf. I tell her she is off-key and that no one wants to here her sing. haha.

Does your cat have a skinny tail and likes to drum it hard on a surface? Mine does. She will start aggressively swishing it around and bang it on whatever surface she is sitting on. I always say she is playing the drums. She likes to be play tortured too. I give her major tummy tickles and she yowls but always come back for more. She likes to be tortured.

They do love to talk the Siamese. Reminds me of this old song…

Not a skinny tail, but he swats his tail hard like that, too! If you’re in the way, you get hit in the face! lol He does that yowling, too, while walking into an empty room, like he’s calling out or something…or if he wants you to come to bed, already. lol

Lol! Yep, I call Woog’s tail “The Tail of Death”. Woog’s favorite thing to yowl for is when she picks up her toy mouse and starts running around with it and comes and brings it to me. I say “Ok yes, good job, you killed it…again!” Lots of times she will start yowling around a certain time for no reason usually around 5pm is a normal time. That must be singing auditions or something!

Here I am with my poodle Renae. She is the smallest dog I have ever had, but has a HUGE personality. She is very sensitive to my feelings, but has not shown that she detects lows or anything useful like that.

Not so easy for me, Kelly. I actually have wanted to add my own pic as well. The only pics I currently have online are in “albums” sent by other people and I have no idea how to get those on here. In addition I use an SLR camera not a digital (yeah, gotta be different!). I remember you used to be able to get a CD when you have film developed and then use some kind of software to get them online. Been awhile since I’ve done it so I have to figure it out again. Maybe THEN I can figure out how to get the pics either into my profile or into a discussion. Couple steps there! (First I have to make sure there is still someplace to develop film…I think Walgreens still does!) Thanks, though.

I have 2 cats and a dog that is epileptic. All 3 are like members of the family. My dog will try and eat anything that is not nailed down. The cats pretty much keep to themselves. Now, if I could just train my dog to detect hypos, that would be cool.

I do that too, DWQ. Good excuse for living alone and talking to myself. I’m talking to Lula!!

Well, he replies, so he must be the crazy one, and not me! hehe
