I used a log book at the very beginning and I think you may want to continue yet for a while as you work out the basl rates and adjusments. I recall making quite a few tweeks to basal/bolus rates in the very beginning but after a couple of months I did stop and do not keep a log book now as I download using the co-pilot program and use it as my log, I use my PDM as my meter and also input all of my carb intake each time I eat so I can get some pretty nice reports and pay attention to certain meals if they are causing me problems or not. If I notice a trend than I can get more specific again and while I have not had to use a logbook in the last 1 1/2 years it may come back into play. Guess it comes down to what you are comfortable with...Good Luck and Happy Podding, I still remember my first day! Take care ~Schmutz
Does the sensor help give better control? Does your pump come with a sensor?
Thanks! I do have a separate notepad I am using to log all my exercise and basal reductions, etc.
So far I am in total love with the OmniPod! Love!!!
Do you wear a sensor with the omnipod?
Hi Margaret, you had a question about a sensor and not sure if your were asking it of me or not? Not sure if your asking about a cgm sensor or something else? I'd be happy to try and answer your question if you let me know more about what you looking for. ~Schmutz
I have been using a log book for 12 years. It makes me see patterns. I can tell when my sugar goes up or down and what may have caused it. It could be food or exercise.
I use an app on my I-Phone called WaveSense to track my glucose, carbs, and insulin. I love being able to do this on my I-Phone since I only have Mac computers here in Florida so I cannot use Co-Pilot. I am a snowbird, and once I return north, I have an old PC that allows me to download the PDM. However, I find that WaveSense works well and will continue to log my stats on the app. WaveSense also allows me to add some notes about meals (although NOT actual foods eaten),medications, exercise, dosages, and additional notes like "sick day," "menses," "overcorrected," etc. The notes are limited and not perfect, but they do help when I review or print out the results. Your endocrinologist will probably want food records and some kind of notes, and I find that having some records available without having to use Co-Pilot really helps. If your phone can handle it, I suggest WaveSense.
Hi sandy! good luck with your omnipod! I would recommend keeping that log at least for a while to see how you are adjusting to pumping see trends and see what needs to be tweaked. I still keep a log for my son 15 to see trends and keep us all on the same page I doubt he will continue with this when he goes to college!
I agree with the patterns that you will see plus my Endo can quickly look at the sheets and see what needs to be adjusted. I normally only do the couple of weeks before my appointment with her
