Sooo...what ARE the ingredients?

Hi Linda, it's made by Julian Bakery in CA. There is a store near me that carries it I think although I haven't had time to get there yet, I have to call them and see what they have. They may be at some wholefoods too, or if you want to pay the shipping and order in bulk, they will ship to you.

here is a link with the ingredients for their 0 carb bread and nutritional info. you can look at all their breads at the site. I'm going to try to make my own at some point too.

I've bought Julian Bakery net carb bread about a month ago. It's not bad really, best if toasted I think. Haven't bought it since because it's $6.00 a loaf! Ouch!

I stopped Low carb, and feel a lot better, more in control and less emotionally fragile! I used to get so stressed trying to find the right diet. I eat fruit and home made chocolate cake! De Cafe coffee. More tomatoes than I used to! That's it! My wife was stressed my daughters were stressed. Ingredients are hard to find. NO low fat anything except skimmed milk! Rural Spain is a difficult place to eat Low carb. Unless your a goat! Trying made us all unwell! Boy I feel better! Just thought I would say hi!

I forgot to say that my bp is very good, the only time it was high when I was in DKA, but that could be a problem obviously if you have bp problems.

I still think you could do low carb and it could help your bp overall if it helps you to lose weight if you need to. I don't feel the need for extra salt right now, but some of the cheeses, the olive and other things I eat have salt added in.

Hi Muleman, that is good you feel better. what do you eat and how are your bg now? You don't have to eat low fat to eat low carb- in fact most people increase their fat intake when they do low carb.

Linda,

Yes, Canada (CA).

that is good to know it is good Karen, because I dont' want to spend $6 for bread that tastes bad, lol !

Thanks Muleman...and you too Karen, Meee, Gerri and all! I don't eat a whole LOT of bread now that I'm on vacation (I teach)...but come Sept., I'll now try to steer away from sandwiches. I usually had either half of one or open face!
I can't fathom going 30 gr carbs/day! Don't want to lose really...mostly maintain (and tone lol)

Linda,

It does seem like a drastic change but you can just try going lower to say 100 per day at first and see how you do with that.

I did this for my bg because I'm just too sensitive to carbs especially grains, nothing else has helped to stabilize me the way this diet has- I still have fluctuations but overall it's much better and lower. Sometimes I feel hungry and I need to eat lots of little meals, I have always been that way though, lol. I think the insulin makes me feel hungrier so I may try symlin at some point. I do like a lot of what I'm eating currently and I will keep adding more variety & things in.

I also think it is just less stress on your pancreas and body to not overload with carbs, but the number you need is going to vary for everyone- I may need more in the winter.

Another thing I eat which is grain/bread like is gg bran crackers- they are only 2 g per cracker and you can have an open face sandwich on them.

I'm eating less of them because I'm trying to cut down grains now too as I think I react to them in other ways than high carb content. But they are great if you think you need that bread/carb boost and they are high fiber. For my breakfast most of the time I don't miss the toast, the vegetables take over for that- I have always loved my vegetables.

@trenia give potassium a try for the leg cramps. That’s per Dr. B’s book.

Dear Onesaint, thank you for your wise advice. I am following it right away taking Kalii chloridum ,600mg 2 X a day.
I hope it will help.Pains and leg cramps catch me somtimes like a metal claws, impossible to walk.

It took the better part of the weekend but I made vegetable soup from scratch. Made the stock and then took the stock and added vegs to it and made the soup. This morning I pureed some of it and had it for a breakfast drink. Met my carb needs and added vital liquids to my intake as well. Still have a substantial qty for the next few days. Never thought I would be proud of cooking vegetable soup but it can add real quality to my diet.

Brilliant, sounds fab. I imagine just adding cumin/coriander/chilli/garamasala etc to the same recipe (with perhaps a bit less fluid??) would give veggie curry - also keeps well / improves over the next few days and is available for any meal. I've had that for breakfast when I don't feel like bacon etc...

Ralph, thanks for the tip, I'll try that. I don't take in enough liquids drinking during the day. Adding soup to my diet has helped that and has dramatically improved my energy levels and stamina. Still a ways to go.

Dub…the pureed vegetable soup sounds so yummy, and is an ideal quick breakfast.

I 've been on low carb diet of Dr B.regime for a month with a 4 day break in a hospital where I had "healthy diet":lots of bread, spagetti , full plate of rice, etc. I am back to the LC diet happily but face a chalenge . I know testing is important to creat my own list of food. But I am restricted to one strip a day.Today, I can't make a plan how to do it. Eat the same things, introducing rarely new food. what to test? dinner I guess, the bigest meal...

Oh dear, the question of what to test when you have too few test strips. My view is that testing is about "action." And the biggest action is understanding how foods affect your blood sugar. If you truly follow Dr. B, you will have a "reasonable" fasting blood sugar and testing 2 hrs after your meal will give you information on how a particular food affects your blood sugar. So save your test strips and test new foods or combinations to gain a better understanding of how your blood sugar rises. Just my opinion.

trenia, I would save my strips and use them in places where you can get the most useful data. Also test at different times of day. I like to test before as well as after a meal as I think it gives me more useful data. The process will go much slower with a limited amount of strips, but you will gradually gain an understanding of how your body is reacting to certain foods. If I recall Dr. B's book has a chart of foods to avoid, foods to limit quantities of and foods that are OK. For me the list is 100% accurate, so if you stick with this or a similar list, you can feel a little better about meals where you cannot test. As a T2 I find my reactions to food are fairly predictable so I have been able to cut back on the testing. I do it mostly to try out new food and to catch any deterioration in my numbers which would mean a change in medication was in order.

I've got stuck with this strips limit; again dear ,reliable tuD friends made me think and help me to make a plan, I was in cheos. Enormous gratitude never forgotten.
