You are right! Today I'm having 12 people over for lunch. I will try not to eat many carbs but I'm sure Ill eat more than on the diet.....I still don't feel very good but from the video you need at least a week. Ill do some more broth today. Id like to try the real low carb for a while and then maybe Ill just have to do moderate 70 carbs. Thanks for your help and encouragement you and BigMoon. I'm going to get Dr Bernstein s book out again and review.
I've been to France. I am glad you did not misunderstand my comment. It wasn't a criticism. But how does a diabetic resist warm baguettes and croissants?
Mari, My husband and I drove around Alsace-Lorraine and took the train to Paris from Germany a few years ago. We ate dinner at a restaurant in Paris that was WAY too expensive for us, saw the Eiffel Tower lit up at night, visited Notre Dame, walked all over Paris. We stayed in a tiny hotel near the Rue St. Clair. For years my husband and I watched TV travel show with Rick Steves and Rudi Maxa and planned our trip. My husband's parents were married in Paris. They were both American Army officers who were in Paris for the Liberation after World Ward II. He was born nine months later.
I'm type 2, been on insulin for about a month (10 Lantus am and pm). This morning before breakfast my reading was 122 (good for me at this stage), ate an egg, cheese and ham omelette then went to the gym where I walked 35 minutes on the treadmill and did a few (20) shoulder lifts on a machine. At home I did a reading and to my disappointment it read 202. I am really enthused with the Bernstein approach, but don't understand that reading. Any ideas? Thanks
Fritz, in his book Dr. B says that exercising in the morning can cause a rise in blood sugar such as you experienced. Dawn Phenomenon interacting with exercise causes the rise. If I recall he says to delay exercise until late morning when DP has run it's course.
Thanks BadMoonT2, I guessed the 122 reading at 8:30 or so was past the DP. It was at least 10:30 by the time I got to the gym. Have ordered Berstein's book in the hardcopy -- a little tough to find things in a "reader".
Hey Fritz. Could be DP like Badmoon suggests, or it could be a response to the type of exercise itself. Lot's of people report that certain types of exercise will cause post-exercise spiking. It seems to be an individual thing regarding the type of exercise, duration, magnitude of response, etc, but the general occurrence seems fairly common.
BG was 98 this morning (low carb really works for me) and I'll hold off exercise until this pm. We'll see where it's at before lunch. Thanks FHS, I found the Berstein chapter on exercise. Have only been on this diet for couple of weeks, but am surprised how easy it is to follow. I'm sure boredom will be my biggest foe.
Snickerdoodle Baking Day....about 2 carbs/cookie after adapting a recipe. Seriously Yummy. It's been a long evolution, but it seems to be that my daughter has taken up the torch to bake up dozens of her Gramma's great holiday cookie recipes in time to send them off to all of us (my sweetie can eat them & even I will indulge in a couple) and I do post-xmas lo-carb alternatives. As I always hope---everybody likes my sugar free/ nut flour versions....It seems to me a valuable educational tool--cookies (at this time of year in particular) that delight the palate and are lo-carb---what's not to like!.....
I sometimes think that when I say I eat lo-carb, folks think I eat nuts and berries on cardboard!...Blessings on all of us and our delish food choices!
I just got here to TuDiabetes. I’m a patient of Dr. Bernstein’s since September. I love his regimen and have gained such good control in a short amount of time! I look forward to getting to know you all and bounce treatment options off each other. I have a small page too where I post tidbits I’ve learned @ www.facebook.com/thebetacell I’ll try and share them here as well when I can.
For years, my lo-carb bread-like conveyor belt for yummy sandwich-like concoctions has been Joseph's Bakery 4 carb pitas which I have ordered on line. Still love them, but their availability in PDX is limited......
My sweetie who parallel-walked with me down the lo-carb path (like wolves who are courting), keeps his eye out by reading labels. In the last 2 weeks he has found 2 new possibilities. I have them but haven't tried the yet:
Tumaro's Low-in-Carb, 60 calorie wrap with 4 net carbs; and LaTortilla Factory Low Carb High Fiber Tortilla with 6 net carbs......
I still love my Joseph's pitas, but having some available locally (with no shipping charge) is a most excellent possibility. Now need to give the taste buds their say on the matter. Will keep you posted.....Blessings on us all...Judith in Portland
I have recently started back with Dr. B (due to terrible blood sugar and care factor over a long period)
And I was wondering if anyone struggles with cutting out milk? Not even a glass of milk but more like milk with coffee and tea? I am very much struggling with that aspect at the moment - for me there is nothing like a coffee or tea to start or end my day.
Does anyone have any milk-free sugar-free hot drink options that I might enjoy? Or even suggest a way to enjoy black coffee more? I have also done as Dr. B suggested and had a tbs of cream - but I find it makes me feel bloated and sick.
Also - any suggestions for easy cheap lunches? I have no appetite at lunch so I tend to eat a tin of tuna and 2 x crispbreads (9g CHO) and stop there. I know that eating this little can actually encourage weight gain, so I need to think of some extras or alternatives?
I don't drink milk at all because of intolerance of lactose. I put a little goat milk to cofee, no sugar. I resigned of sugar and it is easy to get used to, just a few days. hot bevarage - berries compotes, no sugar, coffee decaf no sugar, warm water mineral, all herbs made like tea like camomilles , melissa, minthe, wild rose and more. enjoy
