South Dakota had a governor who was a diabetic, while in office he set up many programs for our state’s diabetics.
He was the spokesman for SD Diabetic Association…very good …but he was a jerk. On a trip across the state, he failed to test, to eat, to monitor himself, and went low…in the meantime, he ran a stop sign and killed a man who was in the right away on a motorcycle. Although they didn’t make a big deal out of his diabetes, he used it for his defense and only did 100 days in jail, lost his SD attorney priviledges and some other items. Since then, pd have been looking for diabetics and giving them the same run around. Unfortunately, John, because of the DUI’s in our country, PD look for drunks driving under the influence, not diabetics experiencing lows.and driving. It’s the facts. So your gf got the brunt of it, as you did. I agree you should do at least two things, talk to the man in charge, captain, whatever. And then make sure that they PD in your area have an educational session on the differences between a diabetic and a DUI. This is something that happens many times too often.
