Enlite CGM sensors failing far too often

Thank you. Helpful advice.

Im going to try this. Change over from Enlite to Dexcom. Is it easy to pair Dexcom sensors with a Medtronic pump?

The Dexcom sensor doesn’t pair with the Medtronic pump. The sensor sends to a Dexcom receiver so you will have to carry a separate unit. It’s not very big. The process is this: Assuming you’re using Contour meter, when you BG it sends to the pump. Twice a day you need to calibrate the sensor so you put the BG reading into the Dexcom receiver. If you are bolusing, use the pump as you normally would. What I do is then enter the bolus amount computed by the pump into the Dexcom receiver with the carbs. You don’t have to do this but it makes it easier for the Endo to look at one set of data rather than two. Again, this is optional. Good luck. I don’t think you will regret a little inconvenience for the much greater accuracy of the Dexcom sensor.

Thanks MarieB. I find this site much much better. Appreciate you sharing the video.

Elite really need to do some work on their sensors to improve the performance and general usability. Enlite - if you read these posts - please give it some thought. Check out your competitors.

Agree. Not paying taxes in your own country is effectively robbing its citizens of services and opportunity.

Dexcom is much better but it does not work with the 530 or 630G Medtronic pump.

I’ve been trialling Enlite sensors and they’re AWFUL.
I’m having over 60% failure rates.
WHEN they work they’re very good but at £50+ per sensor and not yet in possession of funding it’s a terrible failure rate.
Then the Medtronic team lie consistently and persistently.
I can’t wait for my current funding to conclude because I despair of MEDTRONICS.
In 12 months I’ve had to return 2 pumps with monster cracks even though I haven’t dropped them and they had silicon protective covers.
Once you’re locked into the 4 year cycle your stumped.
Please everyone read this and consider carefully your choice.
Animas Vibe 4 years = no failures or returns
Medtronic Veo 4 years = no failures or returns
Medtronic 640G 14 months 2 fails and returns.
Facts speak for themselves.

I was using Enlite for the 630G pump. They really sucked. Very bad. Consistently off 60 points! Out of 3 boxes, one whole box failed. I got the 630G to get into the 670G priority access program. That went smoothly for me. The Guardian 3 Enlite sensors work very very well. I’ve been on it for a week. The first 12 hours were not close enough for me but after that, I’ve been very very happy! These new sensors work very well for me. BUT, it has only been 5 days. Normally off 1-3 points lately (day 5) you do need to calibrate when your numbers are stable. When I calibrated with 1 arrow I got a couple 10 point variations. The next calibration at a stable number time has been off 1-3 points. It maybe a little picky but I AM happy with the new sensors for the 670G. This monday (7/24/17) is when I start in auto mode. I didn’t want to like this new pump but I really do. It works way better than the 630G. I’ve been waking up at 100-120 for the past 3 days and I’m in Manual mode still.

We find the same thing applies to Dexcom G4/G5 CGM.

Perhaps this is a universal best practice for CGM to wait for stable BG before calibration.

My personal experience using the Enlite sensors is about the same as southercross, I feel these sensors were designed with fleshy patients as the target user. Medtronic always lays blame for the product failure on the end user, too much wasted time on the phone with Medtronic support. When I have had a sensor work according to specs, it was great, but with too many wasted ones in between. it turned into a money pit because my insurance does not cover them.

One other thing I learned was no taking Tylenol while on CGM. This is true for Dexcom as well but I don’t believe I was told that until I got the 670G Guardian 3 Enlite sensors. That may have been part of my accuracy problems with the 630G and the old Enlite sensors. I know I took Tylenol a few times. Just a reminder that Acetaminophen will throw any CGM’s accuracy off.

For now. This restriction is removed with the Dexcom G6.

Which Medtronic pump are you using with the Dexcom? The newer Medtronic pumps have a lot of features not found on Animas (which I currently have), but I don’t want to give up my Dexcom g5.

My daughter has the new 70g from medtronics. It uses a Guardian sensor. It has been working great. Sensor actually last 7 days and no air bubbles.

Sorry its the 670G

The 670g from medtronics with the Guardian sensor is like night and day compared to the enlite sensor. Last 7 days.
