ERROR codes for the Omnipod

This is very interesting:
" . I was also told from the people at Insulet to make sure not to have other pods, whether the one you removed, or the box with other new ones, near the PDM when you are changing pods. I usually now move my one I took off at least 3 to 4 feet away from where I am putting the new one on. I don’t have as many issues since I am doing this."

I will def. do this from now on! Or…well…will have him do it. We are on our second pdm… the first one didn’t “fully” fail… just shut down once or twice…prob. battery connection issues…" so they gave us a new one. He has one of those rubber cases on it… and keeps it in a bag most of the time so he has done well w/it for a teen boy.

I love all the adivce everyone is giving here… and ways to make things run smoother. My son absolutely doesn’t want a tubed pump…would go back MDI before a tubed pump. I do think shipping is the “weakest link” for Omnipod… they can’t be in control of all that happens during shipping and Podders change their “pump” every 3 days and whole shipments every few months… this means shipping can be a variable for sure. I do know that Omnipod is taking this seriously though… and changing who ships and how they ship if needed.

My son has been podding for about 2 years… so far… he has only forgot his pdm at school 1 time… he remembered in time to get it before they closed.

Seems though… that for the first time in 2 years… we might have a bad shippment lot… it came in the heat of summer and they do leave it on my door step! GRRR… The poor kid had another pod fail today… code ending w/ 0052 and they would replace…but I don’t need more… we got tons… and a new shipment coming end of month. He loves this pump… it has made his life soooo much better. At one point we had a “previous” doctor take it away for awhile and put him back on MDI…he was misserable and things really weren’t better then…they were worse and so was his stress levels. His new doctor doesn’t blame everything on the pods… she is more realisitic… technology…sometimes fails…in all pumps.

I actually just had to report about 7 pods the other night and asked the customer service person what the codes meant. She told me that the first number, which has always been 19 for me, means it is an internal error and the last number, which is typically a 64 in my case, tells the engineers which part of the device malfunctioned. I’ve had diabetes for 20 yrs now and had the pod for almost 2 years. I love the freedom it offers and feel all the ‘bad’ sides of it are completely outweighed by the positive side. Hope this helps!

My son’s are mostly the 64…but I have never had a fail that didn’t start in 19? Wonder if occlusions start in a different number… not sure they give one? Hmmm And… yes… benefits way way way out weigh the disadvantages!
