Extend Bar........Do you bolus to cover the carbs?

The label reads:
How to count the carbs in ExtendBar…Based on clinically conducted continuous glucose monitoring, only 1 of the 21 grams of total carbs have a short term impact on blood sugar. Fiber (5g) maltitol (6g) glycerine (4g) and uncooked cornstarch (5g) convert slowly and have minimal impact on blood sugar. 1g net carb!

Did you take the label at it’s word and what was your experience?

I’m T1 on a pump.

What is Extend Bar??

It sounds something like the pasta whose name I’m completely blanking on where they talk about “digestable carbs”. In that case the carbs are greatly underestimated. Perhaps that is also the case with this extend bar?

When I eat these, Balance bars or regular granola bars they stabilize my bg;s perfectly.
They work for if I have to go somewhere, and think I might drop while I am out.
I can eat one and know things will level and hold.

Extend Bars effected my BG badly. Only 1g net carb–ha!


Malitol is nasty stuff. I think it’s quite appropriately named:) It can either cause gastric distress or an increase BG (some people can metabolize sugar alcohols).



Glycerine is another questionable ingredient regarding impact on BG.
