Eye disease as a predictor of kidney disease

I just took my daughter to the eye doctor for the first time. She’s only been dx for 10 months, but I wanted a baseline. The most interesting thing I heard from the MD: capillary damage in the eye reflects capillary damage elsewhere in the body, so if you’re eyes are clear, your kidneys, etc. are clear. Has anyone else heard this?

When microalbumin showed up in my urine, the first thing my endo asked me was if I had retinopathy. Having retinopathy doesn’t necessarily mean that you also have nephropathy, or vice versa, or any other microvascular damage, but they are correlated.
