So today (last night actually), Monday 1 Sept 2008, I started a vegan diet - based on a book by Dr Neal Barnard entitled ‘the reverse diabetes diet’. The ‘reverse’ bit only applies to type 2, so since I’m type 1 I don’t think it can reverse my diabetes. But following the vegan diet will help me lose weight (which has been a problem this year for me) and reduce chance of the after-effects of diabetes in later years. It will also give me more energy and generally feel much better. So I’m excited to try this diet out. The book recommends a 3-week trial, full on, so that’s what I’ve started today. I hope to document this in my Tu Diatebes blog. Starting with: this morning I had oatmeal topped with cinnamon and bananas. As well as a coffee (I’m not giving up that!).
Yes, keep us posted on how it affects your blood sugars, insulin needs, and energy level!! Here is a website with lots of vegan/vegetarian recipes that I often use (though I am not vegan/vegetarian): vegweb.com.
Thanks guys Great link Kristin, checking that out!
