Forced to watch video

Firstly, I’ve watched the Cool video plenty of times.

“But you also have free access to insulin, and do not live in a third world country”.

Secondly, it is ironic that you should say that Liz. I’ve been on TuD for about 3 years and other DOC for about 9 years and it upsets me, to see the countless Diabetics from North America who have fallen on hard times and cannot afford their Insulin, strips, etc. Sometimes it seems that N.A. Citizens do live in a third world country.

Listen, I am sorry if you took offense… as this comment was not directed to you at all, but at the person who originally posted the question… If you watched the video, GREAT.

Secondly, I am not in any way suggesting there are not people struggling in N.A. I am one of those people.

But I am very well aware that I have access to pharmacies, that some insulin doesn’t require an Rx and I have friends or family who can perhaps help me get what I need… I have resources available to me to get the things I cannot get right now, on my own, and there are plenty of charitable organizations that also help, too. We have to do the leg work, but they are there.

These people don’t have “free access” to any of those resources for help. They may not be able to do much to help themselves, or their circumstances, at all. It is a HUGE difference to struggle here, in America, or Canada, than in Haiti, or Africa, somewhere. A huge difference.

I just got into the site without having to go through that front page.
I also watched the video, which is obviously and easily accessible in the banner on the home page.
thank you!
I also posted a link to it on my facebook page.

oops, i’m not back to getting to that awful page when I try to access the TuD homepage.
Bummer. Too bad I can’t retract the video from my facebook page.

I just use a bookmark’s button, and changed the url to say http://www.tudiabetes.org/main… and I don’t click on Main within the website, itself… that’s how you can bypass it for now.

I just figured out the same thing Liz!

http://www.tudiabetes.org/main is the way to avoid that first page and come straight to the homepage.

Sorry, I thought these discussions are for all who wish to partake since others experience the same problem. You mentioned once before that help is limited in N.A. There are lots of People who fall between the “convenient” cracks and get no help or support from Family and Friends, as you know…

Guys,
I want to really, really, really apologize for the temporary inconvenience. We feel this is one (of many) ways to get to the goal of 100,000 views, so we can receive the $75,000 donation from Roche, to split among the Life For a Child and the Insulin For Life programs to really save lives.

Having said that, I get it. So here are some thoughts:

  1. We will include a link to http://www.tudiabetes.org/main directly at the top of the current splash page.
  2. I wish we could change the link from the “Home” tab on the site to point to: http://www.tudiabetes.org/main, but we can’t (technically) do it.
  3. If anyone savvy enough can help me implement cookies to make sure the video splash page doesn’t appear if you have seen it before, please let me know how it’s done. I honestly didn’t have the time to look into it, but if anyone can send me the code to include in the splash page, I will happily add it.
  4. Bookmarks, etc. you may have pointing to TuDiabetes.org, adjusting to point to http://www.tudiabetes.org/main will definitely make you skip the splash page.

Once again, I am really sorry about the temporary inconvenience… It will go away very soon… As a matter of fact, at the current pace, we may have reached 100,000 views WELL before Nov. 14. We have 41,722 so far. So if you pass it along to others via Facebook, etc. we will hit the goal and remove the splash page. Regardless, the splash page will be up no later than Nov. 14.

Thanks for understanding and for your support.

I watched the video once but Adobe Flash is SOOO slow on my laptop it makes me want to throw it again the wall. But I want to get my “hit” in.

Agree with Liz, Don’t go directly to the main .org page - go directly to main or forum page (https://forum.tudiabetes.org) and you can skip the video altogether if you have already watched it.

I hope everyone will watch it at least once. So easy to do (well, expect on my computer. I hate Adobe Flash)

Or https://forum.tudiabetes.org to go right to forum page.

Just to clarify, I really wasn’t saying you shouldn’t reply, or anything like that… And I’m not trying to keep you from sharing your opinion. I’m not arguing, and that’s not my intention at all. I just didn’t want you thinking that I was somehow, accusing you, or anyone, of not watching the video.

And yes… resources are limited… But limited does not mean nonexistent. And wherever there are people not helping me, I can get online and find friends who will help me… and there are churches, and organizations… all who can help, sometimes. Some of these kids are in places where their parents are in no place to even think about finding medicines, when they have no food, no clothes, no roof over their heads, or they are in the middle of war. If I can help someone who is far, far worse off than me, why shouldn’t I? Should I whine because I can’t get the help I need, instead? I don’t think so.

It’s just my view. No offense at all intended. No hard feelings.

or they could just remove the page! The banner at the top is spot on and not a problem on cell phones and other platforms and doesn’t hinder access to the site.
Then again, I’ve checked this site numerous times today and I usually pop in once/twice a day. So, my ire is getting me to acces TuD. Not the video, though.

Thanks, and I am sorry to be such a bi%^&, I just get bee’s in my bonnet and can’t get them out.
I did link to it on my facebook page.

No worries, TS. Careful with those bees!

No hard feelings.

I view that video at least 3 times a day, from various sites, and do so gladly. Less then 2 minutes of my time to help a kid get insulin. Thats a no brainer!

Gee, imagine the inconvenience of a child not having insulin.

You’re being forced to do anything & your choice not to participate to show your displeasure. This is a project to help people in need. It ends in 9 days.

No need to be sorry Manny. I watch it more then a few times a day just to help a kid.

The last I checked, YouTube still counts each IP address that views a video ONE time. So even if you sit there and watch it 100 times, it counts as 1 view, because you are using the same IP address.

That is not true. I don’t know if it was Manny or someone else from DHF but they verified that they are getting counts from multiple hits from the same user. If someone keeps hitting it, it won’t count but as long as they are spaced out, they do count. That was posted on the YouTube comments under the DHF name.
