yes. I have had diabetes for 29 years and was diagnosed at 11 and I am now 40. About 12 years ago, I had the same problem. I went to see a (kidney specialist) nephrologist and was given a “cocktail” of meds to heal my kidneys. Since then I have taken the cocktail and my numbers are in perfect range. I was prescribed lisinopril/spirinilactone/hydrochlorathyzide/simvastatin. These meds are actually for different conditions like cholesterol and high blood pressure put they are effective for fixing the kidneys. Make sure the nephrologist has treated diabetics.I find teaching hospitals are better than private practice, because they have to stay as current as possible. I have always had the best treatment in 29 years from teaching hospitals. That includes having a super amazing pregnancy and giving birth to a health baby who is now 12. Also, I moved from DC 2 years ago and was seeing a nephrologist at GWU Hospital.
I have to redo the 24 hour urine test on March 7. Half way through the test on Tuesday I started my period. I called the nurse, she told me to stop the test and discard everything. I have to get a new kit and start on March 7. It seems that the best time for a woman to do the test is on the 20-22 day after the start of their period.
I hate periods, between diabetes and periods it seems like half my life is wasted. Usually on the 3rd day of my period I get cramps so bad I have to miss school. Periods also mess up my glucose control, sometimes it makes me low and sometimes high, no way to know which.
I know it’s hard, but I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage. It’s far too early to call it CKD …as said, drink plenty of water. and ask to check again for a chronic low grade kidney infection.

What a drag! So sorry that you have to start the urine collection all over again on a different day! At least now they told you when in your cycle is the best time to do the test.
And sorry that periods are so difficult for you! Sometimes it sure is hard being female!
