Half Full or Half Empty

This is shaping up as one of those fourth-quarter holiday seasons in which I am bombarded with much advertising that I should simply like to pass by me. Let’s face it, what’s the holiday when one has run out of unemployment coverage and is torn between a seasonal job that would prevent one from spending the holiday with family, and spending the holiday with family but arriving back home in the post-Christmas mass layoff period? Well… things could be worse. Have been worse. I have faith I’ll get through it, but I’m not sure how just yet. (“When waiting is full”, to quote Valentine Michael Smith)

Knowing this, there are still many things for which to be thankful, including:

  • having a roof over my head
  • having a boyfriend with car and license
  • having my bicycle here as available transportation
  • being able to find and prepare healthy food
  • still being able to control my diabetes with diet and exercise alone
  • having friends and family, even if I'm not always that good about keeping in touch
  • having an active and creative mind, and being able to use that for both personal and communal good

What are you thankful for this year>
