Halloween for young children with D1

My daughter is still waiting for her actual diagnosis but with Halloween coming up, it has raised some concern for her and myself. I wonder how parents normally handle this with D1 children. I had a family suggest that she could still go and then some of the family would get together and "buy" her candy from her, then she could go shopping and buy something other than food/candy with her money.

Some dentists buy back candy in our area. Another thought - as smarties are my preferred substitute for glucose tabs, this year I've decided to hand out smarties at the door and keep the leftovers for the medical stash.....

The one year I went trick or treating at age 11 after my diagnosis (I was much too old for that even a year later) my parents held an auction for my candy and my brother bought the whole bunch. My dad said he didn't understand the value of money; I'm not so sure. He valued sweets an awful lot at that time.
