How do you deal with rising blood sugars with new infusion sites?

My only words of wisdom for the OP. If your daughter is using a teflon cannula set, try metal sets. For medtronic, Sure-T, for Tandem, Tru-Steel. Same set, different connector, same manufacturer.

Yes, she alternates between steel and the angled teflon sets. We get the same issue with both types. She is using the Orbit 5.5mm steel and really likes it. We have also tried the Tru-Steel, but she likes the Micro Orbit steel ones better.

My canulas are already primed / loaded when I insert them

I give a .15-.2 unit bolus to ā€œsoakā€ the infusion site immediately.

Their site says they work only with Luer-lock. Is that correct?

Yes.

The Sure T is manually inserted. So i attach the tubing and the business end of the infusion set and prime all the way out to the needle. Then I use ā€œfill cannulaā€ to essentially PRIME the infusion site.

Yes. That’s correct. We’re in Canada so our tslim does not use t lock like the us version.

Okay, thank you. I like this idea of ā€œsoakingā€ the new site. We will give it a go.

Wow. You are amazing. I admire people so much who have the determination to reach big goals. Good on you!

Thank you, it took and is taking a lot. I do not think I will ever be done working at it.

I just wanted to report back that the soaking method worked well for us. She changed the site this morning to her opposite arm and followed immediately with a bolus for coffee and she never experienced any high blood sugars. Thank you for the tip.

I used to bolus a bit after replacing sets…but only when I used cannula-type sets which I abhor. It’s not necessary for me to do that when using steel sets.
