How many meters is too many? How many do you have?

Thanks to the kindness of the coupons in the newspaper I now have 4 meters…
1 One Touch Ultra 2 (that I got when I was diagnosed)
1 One Touch Ultra Mini - silver (I got from my CDE prior to going on vacation … a backup meter)
2 One Touch Ultra minis from the coupons in the paper blue, purple
I gave 2 coupons away recently to people at work who liked the idea of having a meter at work
I am bringing remaining my coupons to Endo next week I will probably give them to my CDE to hand out
I gave the freestyle ones to my father in law

I now have:
1- at work one
1- at home
1- in the car
1 - in the gym bag
Is that bad??

I figure that it never hurts to have them…
After reading the posts about control solution I feel better about not really using it…
but, if you ever need the control solution they give it away with a new meter … hahaha
I also saw coupons recently for $5 off lancets…
After reading the posting on how often people change lancets that would last a while too…

Two is too many, because the damned things won’t match and then you have no idea what your blood sugar is.

That said, I currently have 5. One Ultra for the purse (kept in the kitchen), one Ultra Mini in my office, two old Ultra/Ultra2s I replaced with new ones, and an Aviva which serves as an excellent random number generator.

LMAO … Random Number Generator!!!

We now have 3 after one broke December, (Medisence Optium Xtra; One touch ultra 2, Freestyle mini) Got them all last week. We REALY have difficulty getting them. It took telephone call after telephone call, fight after fight, and lots of struggle to get this 3. We borrowed one for over a month!!

If you join http://www.onetouchgold.com/?source=lfstopublicgold and sign up (it is free) they usually give you the option to get a free meter in the mail.

Only US citizens!!! We are way way way behind USA - remember we import from you!!!

I have 2 one touch ultras
1 one touch ultra smart
1 one touch ultra mini
1 breeze
1 freestyle mini
1 accu-chek compact
1 accu-chek aviva
I like the accu-chek compact the best.

Much like Cathy, I’ve accumulated at least one of every brand but consistently use the One touch Ultra Smart and most recently the Animas Ping as it “talks” to my pump. I keep a spare meter just about everywhere, office, car(s), upstairs, downstairs etc. just in case. Remaining loyal to one brand makes it easier to use the computer programs available for BG analysis. But, whenever a free one offfered, I take it and give them to family and friends. It doesn’t hurt for normal people to check every now and then. If i had before i was diagnosed, i might have been able to extend the life of my pancreas

I have only two: one in my home, a FreeStyle papillon lite and the other in my handbag a Optium Xceed,

The car meter got moved to my backpack once it got cold…I had the same temp fears !!!
I had the same reaction "They stopped sending strips in the meters!!!"
But at least in the paper they had those coupons for the free meters and they all download!!!
Once a week I download all the results and fill in my sheets from the electronic log!!!

Thanks to one and all who replied!!!

Not so sure Aviva better than one touch in my recent comparaison with lab results.

I have about 6, but I use accucheck aviva the most

We have 2 diabetics in our house. My Hubby has 3 or 4, and jstu got a ultra mini in the mail, and DD has 2 - a freestyle freedom and is waiting for her mini (purple).

Ron-

I have 5 meters. I only use 1. I use the freestyle meter and use freestyle because it is intergrated with the Omnipod. Too many meters give different readings…LOL I don’t need confusion.

I work from home but do get sent out on business sometimes…

I have :

1 on my desk in my office, 1 in the kitchen, one in the living room, 1 at each main friend’s house (4), 1 in my gym bag, and one in my purse.

I was thinking of using both the one touch and the accucheck for each reading since one reads high and the other low. The average is not bad. Double the pain and double the cost but accuracy is necessary for thight control.

I have two. One for the road that I keep in my purse and one for home that I keep on my nightstand. I dont think that you can really have “too many” meters. The only problem would be if you wanted to get an idea of averages. You’d have to calculate it from all 5 meters. But if that isnt a concern for you, the more the merrier!
