If you could only have one book on D what would it be?

Actually, my local public library provides free access to ebooks through a number of services, including netlibrary. Two books I read though that service stand out, “Bittersweet: Diabetes, Insulin, and the Transformation of Illness” an interesting historical background account and “My Sister Rose has Diabetes” a really touching book for young kids. The service also has dozens of highly specialized medical books which I find useful, but probably would make the eyes of general readers bleed.

I’m with you, Mr. Woodward. I wish my doctor had handed me a copy right before I got my first insulin shot. It is reasonable, measured and informative. It certainly would have slaked my thirst for information in those early days of fear, confusion and uncertainty.

bsc,

Thanks for recommending “Bittersweet”. I just finished reading it.

The history of beer!!! Oh…wait…Wrong forum!!! Sorry. Think like a pancreas…its a winner!

Diabetes burnout

Ha ha! That’s funny. I just got Think Like a Pancreas and Pumping Insulin. I don’t know which one to read first!

Diabetes for Dummies

Great first book on the subject. Great for basic questions that a newbie like me keeps having. Reading this every day also helps get rid of that helpless hopeless feeling. I have been reading DforD since the beginning of June when I was diagnosed, and I have broken the binding, convered it in sticky tags and written notes on a third of the pages.

I am sure I will eventually graduate to some of the other books being recommended here, but this one has been a great place to start.
