I can let you know in a couple days. I have one tomorrow, so today is my “prep day”. I found my dr was pretty well versed in what instructions to give if you are on insulin (I am type 1, so my TDD is 25-35 units, usually 14 units of that is basal). I admit I am not looking forward to the “clean out” procedure tonight. Basically I am using mostly zero-carb foods after breakfast today (diet snapple, diet jello, crystal light, clear chicken broth, etc) but can fill in with real juice/soda to avoid lows. They said to make sure to drink a lot to avoid getting dehydrated.
Also, I asked what would happen if I needed to treat a low in the six-hour “no food or drink” window before the procedure. He said to go ahead and drink juice to treat the low, but let him know I did that (and at what time) when I show up before the procedure - that is just a precaution in case they need to do general anesthesia for an emergency, so they want to know (and of course it’s better if you don’t have to) but it should not affect the test.
I also plan on reducing my basal (I’m guessing I will start by about 20% but will adjust on the fly) and running a little high starting the evening before, figuring it’s better to be high for half a day than risk multiple lows during all the “purge out” phase…
I’ll send you an update on Friday and let you know how it went. I am sorry to hear about your sister and will be hoping your test comes out fine (I’m having this done at 42 because a 45 year old cousin has advanced colon cancer…)
