i have worn my pump when travelling by plane, train and automobile; and i have also had 2 i am expected to go thru security posts (as i live in NYC and there R security spots everywhere) (especially b/c of 9/11) when having 2 get thru those rediculous machines, i refuse 2 walk thru. i simply tell the officers that i am diabetic and wear a pump which is connected 2 my body. i give them a brief peak, and they let me walk around the machien. then, a woman officer will pat me down and send me on my way.or if they dont want 2 pat me down, they R so bewilldard, they just tell me 2 go around the machien
Ntx: when flying, i change my basal pattern 2 accommodate the change in air pressure. i usually Bcome insulin resistant when in higher altitudes. but regardless, i have no problem on plane travel
That's good to hear!
What do you mean, "in the worst case scenario only one pod would be bad"?
I need to look up the effect of cabin air pressure too.
I see Daisy Mae saying that insulin needs can change, but Aeon, you're talking about the actual physical effect of the air pressure on the pump itself.
I can understand that the stress of flying might raise your blood glucose levels, thereby creating the need for more insulin.
How would the cabin air pressure effect a pump/pod?
Omnipod specifically allows X-ray.... see their web site here :

Can I travel while wearing the Omnipod System ?Yes. We recommend that you contact your airline for information on current security requirements. The PDM and Pods can safely pass through airport x-ray machines. If the security detector goes off, tell the security screener that you have diabetes and wear an insulin pod.
From what I was told and read last year, the air pressure change during take off specifically can result in a little bit of additional insulin come through the tubing (like a half unit more than whatever your basal rate is at the moment). I can say that a couple of times my BG has dropped following take off.
Sounds a tad like a DUL to me; free cyber hug to the first person to crack the acronym. I just created it but it's a useful one. You heard it here first.
Ah.
I don't think I'll worry about it. I'm 99.9999% sure I'll be running higher than normal during this trip.
Hence my extra poking /testing while in an aircraft .
