Introduce Yourself!

Been lurking on TuD for a while, finally joined. I have lots of medical probs so I figured I'd start here.

My name is Jennifer, but I go by Jen Jen.

I have Type 1 D w/insulin resistance, Asthma, Seasonal Allergies, Celiac's, IBS, GERD, Juvenile Rum. Arthritis, Generalized Paroxysmal Dyskinesia/Dystonia, Myoclonic Jerks, Tremors, Hashimoto's Hypothyroid, Reynauld's syndrome, Migraines, Cluster Headaches, had gallbladder removed because of stones a couple years ago, spinal probs(couple budging dics, slight scoliosis, pinched nerves), problems with chronic pain due to several of my health issues(doesn't help I tend to fall a lot because of the dystonia 'n neurological junk), anxiety, and depression(list kinda makes that one obvious, just irks me when the docs try to explain away things with it as if it's the root cause of everything.) There might be something I left out, but oh well.

Took years to get anywhere with the neurological stuff, even now still learning more. Docs wanted to blame the D and neuropathy instead of investigating what was going on, it took many trips to different specialties for a neuro to say "Oh, that's dystonia". Very frustrating. I even get the "it's the D" from eye doctors just because they don't want to take the time to correct me all the way, had to pay a fortune for a specialist to tell me my eyes are fine and there were absolutely no signs of retinopathy, instead I'm a carrier for a rare disease called X-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa, so yay and F###!.

Even with all my health issues, I managed to have two beautiful healthy children and hope all my cruddy health problems didn't pass on.

My name is Marie. I was diagnosed with DT1 when I was 10 yrs old back in '69. In addition, I have:

fibromyalgia
connective tissue disorders: tenosynovitis, synovitis, frozen shoulders, contractures, bi- lateral carpel tunnel, etc.
hypothyroidsm
polyneuropathies
Stage 3 chronic kidney disease

I take so many meds that I am a human maraca. And, of course, I take 4 shots of insulin a day. Due to the high level of pain, I have problems with mobility and I take a variety of pain meds. I work at a University and live with 2 cats and one dog. My children are grown and I just became the grandmother of the light of my life.

Good to meet you all!

I hear ya, sister. Sometimes when I can self refer, I leave T1D off the health history form. It makes them do their jobs better when they’re not on auto pilot and just dismissing every symptom under the sun as “well you DO have diabetes.”

Nice to meet you. I’m dealing with some of these issues. Tell me your secrets to maintaining an overall positive attitude, having the energy to have raised your children well, and to keep working. I’m struggling with that right now… I’m tired of pain, doctor’s visits, extra meds, no answers, no “fixes”.
“Well managed” T1 x 34 years.

I have Type 1 Diabetes (diagnosed 1988), Hashimoto's Disease - Hypothyroidism (diagnosed 1989), Vitiligo (diagnosed 1995), Diabetic Retinopathy (diagnosed May 2014). I am happy I found this forum, because it can be lonely and overwhelming dealing with multiple diseases, and not having anyone else who can understand.
