Is it possible that the sodium chloride that is used in the pump trial produce high sugar levels and inclusive keytones?

Hi....

My guandaughter, 2 years, 9 months old, has been in the pump trial (anima's ping) for a week...During those days her sugar levels has increased a lot, going up to the 4 hundreths...and keytones in the urine has appeared...Before that she was more or less within her normals and never with keytones...Does anyone has such an experience ???? Is good to know.

My daughter took off the pump and is waiting for her pump to arrive...and in the meantime her sugar is improving.....

Thanks a lot for your advice and God Bless You...Tita

David did not do a saline trial he went straight to insulin on his pump start, so I don’t know, but it would be logical that someone that young would have rising blood sugar if they are experiencing dehydration. Putting a little one on a saline pump trial may require an increased liquid intake to keep properly hydrated. I would suggest that your daughter speak to the endo sooner rather than later as you don’t want your granddaughter to be experiencing ketones in addition to the high BG.

Thanks Cheryl…she did that and the specialist is taking care of this…they are increasing the basal insulin in her too. Thanks again for your time and GBY and your David too.
