Funny story (possibly only funny to me, but oh well). Just had to share.
I started the CGM back in November. In my starter pack, I was given 10 IV3000s. Each one lasted the entire 6 days I wore the sensor; I never had problems with it coming off in the shower.
After I finished the first box of sensors, I ordered more along with a box of 100 IV3000s. I thought–WOW, this box of IV3000 is going to last me forever if I only use one every 6 days!
Unfortunately, after my first shower with an IV3000 from the new box, It completely fell off. The top layer separated from the glue completely, leaving the glue on my stomach and CGM.
This made me so mad the first day this happened because I wasn’t expecting it, and it made a big mess, screwing up my sensor because the second I got dry, so did the leftover glue, making me stick to everything.
When this happened again the next day, I was prepared. I had another IV3000 out and ready to just put over my sensor site immediately after the shower. And while slightly annoying (and the glue build up would be crazy like you wouldn’t believe after 6 days), this is what I’ve been doing everyday for the past 2 months.
It was my first box of IV3000, and while I thought it a little strange they weren’t water proof, I didn’t have much to go on that they weren’t. I figured maybe the first 10 I got in the starter pack were a fluke, or that I was just being extra careful since it was new and not washing it the same, or that maybe I ordered the wrong kind…or something!
Well, as I ordered a new box of sensors last week, I also got a new box of IV3000. And what do you know?? THEY STICK IN THE SHOWER! I’ve used my current one through 2 showers now, and it’s showed no signs of falling off like the last pack.
So I guess I got a defective box of IV3000 last time? Screwed up glue, I guess!? How bizarre is that? Anyone else ever had this happen?
I suppose I could call and let Medtronic know about it…but I probably won’t. I got use out of them, after all. I’m just entirely amused by the situation!
