My bad, I had my classes mixed up. When I said “Diabex” above, I was intending to refer to the Sulphonyluraes, and the brand name I should have used was Diamicron, not Diabex.
Thanks for finding my mistake though!

No problem.
be careful with sulphonolaureas (sp) as they are thought to kill beta cells. Have you read Gretchen Becker’s book yet? She is a member here. I bought it in paperback when I was first diagnosed 2+ years ago, but it is in storage in the US, so I just bought a digital copy from the Kindle store, for a refresher. It is awesome!
I am thinking that if the met doesn’t let me eat reasonable amounts of carbs, I am going to be adding Levemir. We shall see. 1500 mg met is enough for me.
Yeah, taking the Januvia (DPP-4 inihibitor) instead of the more popular route of sulphonyluraes.
Levemir works similarly to Lantus doesn’t it? I’m willing to give the Januvia a shot before I consider insulin. So far, it’s working well (I’m very stable between 6 and 9 mmol/l. I had a high yesterday of 11.3, and could feel the difference which would indicate my body is now well accustomed to the lower BGs. Came down quickly though, and I was 6.4 again within a couple of hours). No side-effects either, despite all the dire warnings I’ve had about the stuff. We’ll see how long this lasts, and what kind of HbA1c I pull out first
Are you taking Met? I didn’t think you were on meds at the moment … ? How do you split up the 1500mg?

Just started the met. It is XR, but taking 500 mg with each meal to spread the “joy” of it. No died effects so far.
Levemir apparently causes less weight gain than Lantus, and works well with the metformin. Metformin inhibits the liver from producing Insulin, and makes the body more sensitive to insulin from the pancreas. But if the pancreas is wearing out, it will eventually need help.
I have a wonderful blue bag from Contour, given to me “free of charge” when I was diagnosed about a year ago. It is full of pills.
I take two pills for pain (versions of Morphine) three times a day to which I add my two diabetes drugs the drug to keep my stomach from eating itself again (3 old/mostly inactive ulcers), drugs to keep me from tearing off my clothes and running down the street naked screaming at trees (work related stress), drugs to keep my blood pressure from going to zero (big guy with low blood pressure, go figure), drugs to help my heart work (one heart attack), Insulin and then some more drugs as needed for when I get severe dizziness (who knows why), have breakthrough pain (when you bite through an ink pen) and other assorted fun times.
Yes, I am with you. Let’s just add pills containing vitamins, minerals and some basic stuff to keep us going and just have pills for meals. Hey, that almost rhymes…
