Januvia (DPP4 inhibitors) and type 1

I’ve had type 1 for 8 years now and I’ve had A1Cs under 6 for most of that. I have very few lows or highs, so my endo ( and me too!) is convinced that I’m still making some insulin after all these years. I have some beta cell function and would like to keep that. I had an endo appointment today and he mentioned that Januvia and other DPP4 inhibitors have shown promise in being an immune regulator for people with Type 1. I’ve found a few journal articles that says this is a newly noticed/observed phenomenon with little research but it looks promising. He was going to do some research and consult with another doctor at the med school that had been doing some research and probably follow up in a few weeks. Has anyone else done this or even heard of this?
I’m pretty sure my insurance won’t cover this since this is an off label use, but I’ll worry about that in the future if neccessary.
