When you tested, had it been a while since you had eaten? Possible to get small amounts of ketones when you haven’t eaten. Sure your strips haven’t expired?
As Joesphine said, drink a lot of water & see if this brings it to the normal range.
An hour or so wouldn’t make a difference. Sometimes if people skip a meal, there can be ketones. You do a correction to bring BG down? That & water should take care of it. Hope you’re back to normal now. Well, as normal as any of us are:)
LOL, for awhile I was writing keytones too. I am the type that writes how the words sounds!
The ‘rule’ my center gives for ketones is 1oz of water per year of age every hour until gone. So if you are 16 years old, 16oz of water an hour. They do say to stop at 18oz no matter your age(as obviously drinking 45oz of water an hour would not be good!). They do this generally with kids.
I had a bout with ketones this morning. Woke up 320 with moderate-large ketones(absolutely no idea what happened, BG’s were great the rest of the day). Drank 16oz of water an hour(I am 18…almost 19…so I didn’t do the extra ounce!). , and gave a correction. They were gone in no time.
Would you all believe that in 53 years of testing for sugar; i.e. pills in a testube with urine, paper test strips for urine sugar, and finally BG tests, that I have never once tested for ketones? About five years ago, a new endo gave me an Rx for ketostrips but I never filled it. I wouldn’t know how to test ketones if someone put a gun to my head. It sounds like a urine dip thing.
nobody ever explained checking for ketones for me either. I figure it’s not that big of deal as long as you take your insulin and stuff, and drink water.
So glad someone played proofreader! I am a retired (too soon) professional (legal)secretary/office administrative support person. It was driving me NUTS not pointing that out but I did figure that it could have been just a typo and not a misspelling. It was crazy seeing that and not responding! How’s that for a**l retentive?!! :o)
You’re funny! And, like your name, you probably create a lot of chaos in your wake!
I’m not freaked out as much as it is an automatic response of being secretary/administrative support since I was 17. Sorry …knee-jerk reaction! (And I probably use way too many exclamation points!) I suppose you will find that with KEY words. You can’t google on a misspelled word very easily.
