Last MTB Race of the Season and my 2nd since Dx

I am SO excited that I found this group!!! I don’t know anyone with diabetes and I certainly don’t know any who ride.

So, this weekend is my 2nd race since being dx’d. I did my first race a couple of weeks ago and I came in dead last. The race was located at Lance Armstrong’s ranch near Austin, so needless to say, it was a tough course. I was quite nervous about my bg - I wasn’t sure if I was feeling jittery due to nerves, or due to a low! About 3 miles into the race, my teammate in a younger group had a terrible accident, so I waited with her for about 20 minutes until EMS arrived. BUT, if I added in that 20 minutes, I would have been in 4th place! So, my goal was to finish, and that I did!

This weekend is the last race of the season, and I am really hoping to do well. Unfortunately, I broke an $800 part, so I’m riding on a loaner. I’m just happy that I’m starting to feel like my old self again. It’s so frustrating to not always be healthy enough to do what I used to do, but I’m getting better.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself and tell everyone “hi”!

Welcome!
Like a lot of us here, you’re fortunate to already be someone who loves to push their own personal athletic envelope at every opportunity! It will make your life with “The D” absolutely nothing like the associated stereotypes. Granted that diabetic athletics has a dimension to it that non-D athletes don’t experience, you will find a community on this forum that “gets it”, and many who will hammer the roads and trails with you with joy.

Hammer On! We can DO THIS!
