I can make do with the 640G water specs.
How many diabetics are going to go down to 120 feet?? You might be a member of a very small subset of MM pump wearers. Iād be fine if a pump would not leak down to 6 or so feet. The 511, 515, 522, 523, 530G isnāt usually going to survive being dunked for a few minutes at 1 foot. Iāve gotten a pump wet for a few minutes, and a few days later it died. I had another pump stop totally in under 5 minutes, because it had a crack under the MM label that Ididnāt noticeāand I went into a pool. I had another one fail the same day it got wet. I had another pump (my current 530G) SURVIVE a few minutes at less than 2 feet of water. I got lucky on that one.
Iāve read about studies that revealed un-commanded small insulin delivery in an insulin pump when going through the pressure changes of commercial air travel. I would be worried how the pressure increase of 40 meters of water depth would affect an insulin pump.
that would be something to discuss with the mfgr.
The manufacturerās answer is always ādonāt do it!ā
Iām glad you told me you didnāt send it as I was sort of like āoh crap, it got lost/ stolen/ thrown out/ the dog ate it/ etcā
I am on this pump for 6 days now. It is the first pump I use but thus far I really like it. (Until now, because my bg is high and not really respondingā¦)
Just noticed the pic (copied below) of the new ISIG History list available on the 640G in @hljpās post in another discussion. (Here is a link to that post if want to check it out).
This history list of ISIGs & BGs is a nice addition, I think. Iām still thinking I might be happy to move to the 640G when it eventually rolls into the U.S. Of course, itās probably going to be a while beyond the actual U.S. release date for me since my current pumpās warranty doesnāt expire until March of 2017.
Hello
just wanted to give an update. after having struggles with the sensor for almost 2 months, new sensors arrived and they are now working amazingly!
looks really as if i had a horrible LOT.
grateful i had so much patience, even though it was annoying at timesā¦
Swiss, I have put the last 5 or so sensors in my arm and now enjoy awesome accuracy for many days. You may have noticed my thread mentioning that i got 25 days out of one of them.
Hey guys,
Have to say I am getting fed up of my 640G, itās eating a lithium battery every four days! This is without use of CGM and the screen light set to the lowest setting.
My roche combo would go 2 months off the same batteries.
The 640g didnāt start off like this, so am going to see if Medtronic will ship a replacement meter.
Another niggle is bolus delivery, takes several confirmations on the pump⦠Keep getting bolus not delivered error messages as well.
Been using the MIO sets and have had a number of sets kink at 90 degrees, high ketones as a result of two them.
May just be a run of bad luck
Good to know @Buckley83!!
I donāt recall seeing this as a common complaint from 640G users, and there seem to be more and more of them as time moves on. So maybe your pump is defective in some way?
Medtronic should replace your pump. But even if they wonāt, couldnāt you just report the problem to whomever you talk to at your National Health Service about these things and get them to swap your battery eating pump for another? They may even have other suggestions for mitigating the problem.
Or, at the risk of referring to something I really do not understand at all, is this something you could āYellow Cardā? ![]()
Is there a chance that the type of batteries being used is the culprit? For example, the 5xx series pumps donāt work well (understatement of the century) with Duracell batteries. Even without using the CGM feature, the pumps will quit in less than a week and usually abruptly, just after having displayed MORE than one bar of battery life. I only use Energizers in my 530. I do understand that the 640 uses different batteries than the 5xx series and am just wondering if Medtronic has once again made a product that is super-picky about what brand/type battery should be used.
there must be something wrong, either with the batteries or the pump. contact the hotline and tell them you want an explanation or a new pump.
i was never lucky using teflon sets (like mio or the quick set). for over 10 years now i have been using the sureT sets, they have a steel cannula and have only kinked once in the past 10 years (on tuesday morning, to be exact, and it was horrible, but once in 10 yrs, common!)
hope you get on a better path. i was trying for the first 2 months on this pump, and now absolutely in love! hoping the road takes the right turn for you as well!!!
Hi,
Yes, I spoke to Medtronic today, they had already replaced the battery cap and advised I clean the contacts. Neither of which improved the situation. So I have a new pump arriving tomorrow.
Customer support suggested battery issues have been escalated and reported by a number of customers.
I tried both types of batteries alkaline and lithiums, Iāve been getting 48 hours with an energizer alkaline and about 4-5 day with a lithium.
The thing is in the UK, batteries are funding covered and you can order them with your infusion sets. Lithium is the far superior battery in the 640g, however posting lithium batteries in the UK is more expensive than posting alkaline (donāt ask me why, something to do with a safety concern). So in the interest of profit medtronic UK ship the 640g with naff Alkaline ones. I purchase the lithiums out of pocket, but I donāt want to have to be purchasing a lithium battery every four days for the next three years ha.
As for infusion sets, I really didnāt get on with the mio had an order of 30, finished them. I have the best absorption with the sure Ts however, I find them uncomfortable and get skin reactions and red welts after the second day! For some reason it seems that roughly one out of five teflon sets are kinking on me! Which is too much as it always causes ketones and 24 hours of crap blood sugars.
I actually feel like giving pumping a rest for a while, the hassle and all the extra gear is starting to take its toll, as are the high blood sugars from poor infusions sites.
Iām fairly sure I could keep my HbA1c between 5.5-6.0 with a Freestyle Libre and basal bolus with a split dose of Lantus.
Would be great not being connected to something 24/7 as well as giving my infusion sites a rest
Five years of pumping now, Iām well aware of the benefits especially around exercise, but the negatives seem to be outweighing the benefits at present.
Can see why Bernstein had his concerns about them ha ha ha.
I wouldnāt want to have to replace expensive lithiums every 4-5 days either! I hope it all gets sorted out well for you, ie, a replacement pump lasts longer on lithiums than what you have been getting.
This sounds pretty weird. Animas are happy to ship Li batteries for the Vibe along with other pump supplies - delivered by one of the courier companies (?DHL?). I know a 640G user and as far as I am aware, she gets the Li batteries supplied by Medtronci. She has also had battery life issues. It seems there are software bugs that cause premature low battery alarms. Apparently something to do with the internal battery. Someone from Medtronic talked her through a procudural fix, although a sofware upgrade is likely to be required.
Roche shipped Lithiums without issue when I was on the combo, so Iām not sure what the reasoning is beyond Medtronic not wanting to.
Lithium batteries are not listed at all on the UK Medtronic E shop, else Iād not be sticking in regular amazon orders for them
New pump arrived early and has been set up. So fingers crossed the issue is resolved.
crossing fingers things are workingā¦
good luck on your journey, wherever it may take you
Is the new pump working any better?
When I got my 640g it was a shocker, the first few lithium batteries lasted 4 days. Seems to be much better now, I get almost 3 weeks from a battery.
