Medtronic Paradigm Mio Sets

Just looking for some feedback about these sets-they look great!

Lance a-lot ( what a grand name !!) do you have a link or picture available, please …maybe I have heard the name before, but I am not sure . Do they have a needle( as the Sure-T’s ) and rotate with blue tinted tubing ??

Hi Lance a-lot! (I’m loving it to!) I have been given three sets to trial which I’m doing at the moment.

Above is the link to the UK site- I hope nel you can access it. I have found them quite good so far. The adhesive disk is smaller but the whole disk is adhesive unlike the quickset so you get the same stick for less adhesive. The hard plastic bit on the top is also smaller which is good but it isn’t as rounded as the quickset and it is a little more ‘rough’ than the quickset.
The applicator comes as part of the disposable so you don’t have an inserter or serter as its built in. It does have a needle which is removed after the insertion.
A negative, if being environmentally sound, is that there is alot more wasted plastic which you can not recycle after as the inserter, with built in needle, is obviously not recyclable and has to be thrown as clinical waste.
I’ve tryed one in my buttock and thigh and so far have found them comfortable and seem very secure. Going to try the last one in my stomach and see how they go.
They are more expensive. In UK they are £90.60 for ten rather than £87.03 for quicksets- only a little more but every little helps!
On the whole I like them and I am thinking about converting to them. If your interested will let you know how the stomach insertion goes! D

Hi Guys, I’m on a paradigm veo at the moment and I use a quickseter. I might be a bit dumb here but could someone possibly explain what the difference detween what I’m using now and what this is please ( I have to say I want one just because it’s pink) but I would like to know practicaly what this means. Also Duncan - do you get your pump funded by the NHS, would you have to pay for this set?

Hi Jacq- Yup they come in pink for the pink lovers out there- a friend of mine is very excited by this! Also blue and clear. I think the Mio sets are designed as a possible long term replacement for the quickset although this is my own interpretation of the situation and have not been told this. In some ways it is very similar to the quickset but seems to have a few advantages. 1) in pink! 2) you don’t need a serter as its incorporated 3) Less adhesive 4) protrude slightly less fro skin surface 5) no need for inserter because built in to disposable.
Have a look at the link as it shows it.
I’m on a paradigm 712 which is funded by my PCT 6 years ago. I’m due to get a new pump soon and the Veo looks very good but I believe the PCT will not cough for the CGMS for it so I’m not sure what to do.

Hi Duncan

As far as I’m aware at the moment it is virtually impossible to get CGMS funded by the PCT. I have heard of people who have got them on trial but from what I understand that has actually been down to medtronic themselves and not our stingy PCTs. Which is annoying as I could really do with one. I still get really bad dawn phenomenon and I could do with just being able to see what is going on.

I have only ever been on a Veo. I screamed loudly for 3 years and I think they just gave me one to shut me up. I have to say I love him, he’s purple and called fred. Having a pump has totally changed my disease. I was diagnosed brittle and all though I still swing these days it’s between 3 and 17 instead of 1 and HI

They look like the insets I switched to when I switched to the ping–same colors etc…I love the set/inserter combo…and smaller adhesive that for me has been even better staying power wise

I read that far to quickly as ‘insects’ ha ha for a second there I was mightily confused

Thanks Duncan for the link …I stay with my Sure-T’s for now …I do prefer the needle , rather than using a cannula .

I am using the mios and Iike them so far. I have been switching between quicksets and mios.
