I’m pretty set on getting a Foo Dog as they are known as being protectors, they keep away evil spirts as well they also symbolize strength and courage. I actually wanted to get one some time ago but I could never find one I liked, until now that is. Problem is, I also would like a swallow. I would probably put it on my left shoulder/neck area, you know right in that ‘groove’ so to speak, I would put the Foo Dog creeping down my left arm. I am hesitant about the swallow because I also want a phoenix and for some reason I feel I can’t have both as it would upset my balance, lol. The other thing was that I was also looking forward to getting my tooth angel design behind my ear but I also don’t want something so subtle and my left arm feels very naked compared to my right arm, lol. My mom is planning on getting another tattoo later this summer so maybe I’ll do my tooth angel design then. What ever I get now is for my birthday, well not right now but in the upcoming weeks. My birthday is the 23rd. Any who, here is a picture of the Foo Dog I have fallen in love with, well everything but the tail because I think it’s kind of weak so I would probably ask my artist to pretty it up and I would choose different colors, maybe purple and gold or red and orange…

Thanks. I was telling my mom about it and she said “I see someone has done their homework” lol. I don’t think she realizes how much I really am into Chinese/Japanese history and culture. I emailed my artist today, hopefully he’ll have it ready when I stop in at some point here. I told him it also needs to have a sphere under its right bottom foot, usually that is depicted as being earth/life. Still debating colors, purple may be my choice.

love the design. I have two shisa dogs on my arms, one with its mouth open and one with it’s mouth closed. They are cute and i wish i had them all over my body, along with skulls and roses
Cool, you’re going to have to show me sometime!! I had a hard time deciding if I wanted the more traditional aspect such as having two shisa dogs or just one guardian lion or Lion of Buddha creeping down my arm like it’s stalking “evil spirits” so to speak. The first design I found was more like a ‘baby’ Foo Dog and I thought hey that’s cool, he’s going to grow up to be a protector because he survived being thrown off a cliff… what a way to start life, lol. Then I found this one and I fell in love with it. I know they’re usually depicted in pairs though so I don’t want to be the idiot who only got one because I didn’t know anything about them and just got it for looks, lol.
