Remember that the A1C test is front weighted. It may be billed as a 3 month average, but in reality the 2-3 weeks leading up to testing have a bigger influence on the result then the weeks at the beginning of the period.
If you have developed a DP that your not aware of in the overnight then it could be showing in the A1C result.
If it keeps up might want to be doing an overnight basal check.
Aww, thanks, Brian!
Thanks, hobbit; I'm aware of the skewed influence of the more recent numbers on the A1C. I don't know whether I have DP or not (tend to doubt it), but my morning numbers seem to go through phases. I've tweaked my basals and for the last couple weeks my morning numbers have been darn near perfect. But yes, I think the high morning numbers I was seeing for a couple weeks before that could have definitely indicated highs throughout the night and spiked the A1C
i feel the same way-when i keep getting these 6s and got 5s in my first year i just cant believe it! I also feel like all the work deserves a 5! just a number just a number just a number-easy to say, hard to accept!
About 5 or 6 years ago I had a mystery 6.9. Like you I almost never saw even a 150 so I was sure it was a mistake. Who can tell? But I did start testing in the middle of the night just to prove that wasn't when I was having a problem. With no obvious change to my numbers my A1c went back down to 5.9 6 months later.

Thanks, Maurie; hopefully that will happen to me too. Though I wouldn't say I "almost never see even a 150!"
That was a long time ago. I see plenty of 150s and above now and my A1c has remained below 6 which is always a pleasant surprise.
