I am a relatively new pumper (started in July 2009) and in the beginning I got a lot of “no delivery” messages. Maybe like 1 our of 4 times I tried. I was inserting in love handles area and found that my insertion technique was probably to blame. Trying to twist to far around back or whatever it was would cause the canula to bend or not be inserted properly. Got better over time. I just started using my abdomen area to give the love handles a break, and am finding that I am having the same “no delivery” problem again. I’m just guessing, but it seems like choosing good spots is important. I’m just a little afraid to try new areas because I’m just not used to it and I get these “no delivery” messages. In any case, I feel your pain - literally and figuratively.
I have been pumping for about 7 years now, 4 Animas 2 cozmo and 1 with MM. I had no real scarring until the MM. Now I have delivery issues and huge scarring on my rolls. I talked to my CDE and you can switch to res, and infusion sets from Animas that fit MM. The res is actually from a 3rd party but supplied via Animas. I am planning on making the switch but haven’t yet. Their infusion sets are different and seem to work better. I did a test with them and I could insert directly into a scar and have good bgs until I ran out of Insulin 3.5 days. With the MM quicksets I am getting 2-2.5 days before my bgs jump.
Thanks EVERYONE for all of your input and ideas- really helped me a LOT!! just wanted to let you know that it turned out to me my insulin. My humalog was the problem- it didnt cause a “no delivery” alarm or anything but it was the last variable to try- i went to the novolog and havent had a problem since!
I’m glad to hear that. I’m on humalog now and might switch over to novolog before summer starts.
I told you so! I’m kidding, but it’s surprising the number of people who react to a certain insulin, but won’t to another - I am glad you were able to figure it out and find a solution.
haha you were right!!! thank you!
it might be worth it to be proactive!
You may want to switch to Novalog. I heard that Humalog can cause no delivery alarms on other diabetes websites too.
i’m having the same problems. just started pumping last week with minimed and have the quicksets. they are sooo uncomfortable for me…my trainer is bringing me silhouettes wed. i’m praying that they work better…i too don’t wanna go back to injections, it’s been a week and when everything is running smooth i love it.
do you have lots of blood pouring out when you remove the quickset?
I'm currently going through this EXACT same issue!! Did you ever find a solution!?
I've struggled with control for literally years and was changing infusion sets every two days (or more often) because they would get so itchy and irritated. On a regular basis my body would just "reject" the site and I'd shoot high. I talked to my endo and he said it wasn't uncommon to develop an allergy to either the cannula or the adhesive on sites. I'm pretty sure my problem is both. I tried some other sites (I was using Comforts, I tired Insets and some other samples) and had the same problems.
I recently switched to needle sets and it has been like night and day! My control is SO MUCH BETTER! The sites were still getting a bit itchy, and were also falling out on a regular basis, so I also got some Skin Tac which I tried for the first time a few days ago. It definitely helps my sites stick better, although they still got itchy on day two.
If you have already tried different sites, I would give needle sets another try. A few years ago I tried needle sets with the 8mm cannula and gave up because they bled and I still had a lot of random highs. This time around I got 6mm ones and that seems to be what has done the trick. No bleeding, very little irritation (the Skin Tac actually seemed to irritate it more, so we'll see how that works out), and my blood sugars are so much more predictable. It's amazing how much difference an infusion set can make. I've had one or two of the Contact Detach sets go bad and my blood sugars rise to 250 or so, and after not coming down with one or two corrections I move the site and things are fine. But that's only happened a few times, and is such a huge difference from having random readings in the 300s and 400s that would occur regularly and stay high for hours.
this is going to sound crazy but after eliminating every variable possible, the only thing left was my insulin. I switched from humalog to novalog ang it fixed this issue! (sorry i didnt get back to you sooner- haven't been on Tu in a bit) Did you find resolution?
I am so frustrated! I am dealing with this same issue right now. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I am awaiting calls from both my pump trainer and endo right now as to how to proceed. My endo changed my insulin from Humalog to Novolog. I started that this weekend. The first day was decent blood sugars. Less than 24 hours of changing the infusion I started to see a spike in blood sugars. I was able to get my blood sugar down to a normal level by bedtime but then it spiked to over 300 overnight! I changed infusion sets this morning. Stayed high most of the morning and then this afternoon they have continued to fall. My leg is sore where the infusion was inserted and there is a swollen area underneath. I have some irritation also now where the tape was. I am not sure of what I am allergic/sensitive to at this point. I am starting to think all of it! Any ideas??? Thanks!
I change often and get doc notes to cover it. I use my books which now work the best. But I have had blood literally pouring down my arm when my site has gone bad. It is a constant struggle like diabetes itself. Constant struggle, ups and downs. Some you can solve others it is just the disease.
