New here :) also, omnipod; 3 pods in a row not working with no error messages

Hi cat,

Hope the back of the arm is working for you. That is pretty much the best place for me. I switch arms every change. I just finished trying my stomach, both sides, and butt, and the pods weren't working, with consistently high blood sugars, so I'm once again happily podding on my arms. And I use Apidra insulin because it tends to get out of the body faster, reducing the risk of stacking.

Not sure why you asked if there are manual infusion sets for OmniPod, that doesn't apply to the pods.

Perhaps he missunderstood me, I was talking about minimed sets.

I tried my stomach yesterday, now I'm trying my thigh. Can't seem to get it to work. Basal is sort of working? Noticing moderate ketones even when my BGs are between 180-200. Bolusing via injection til I talk to the pump specialist and my doc. Pretty bummed but trying to be grateful that the injections are working. I really really don't want to go back on the levemir or any long term insulin

Pump still not really working. The long term insulin is scary for me because my needs change so much every day that some days I would be fine and others I would plummet within minutes to dangerous levels. Way insulin sensitive. To be honest, I would rather do just about anything than have to go back to long term insulin. Thanks for your support. I'm pretty sick of feeling unique with this problem. There has to be someone out there who is going through this

Just send the O pod back and get a tubed pump. You will then be able to find a infusion set that works.....You picked vanity over reliability....if it's not working then switch, ask O pod to give you your money back....JMHO

john might be right in terms of the omnipod not working for you, i would wait it out and see if an omnipod rep may be able to come out to your house to trouble shoot with you. so you are doing a bolus when you start up without food to get things going... you could try doing a temp basal increase for a bit also or overshooting your boluses i am frustrated for you because i just dont get it, when will you be getting back, so you can make an apt at your clinic? hang in there you are working through a challenging situation and keeping yourself sane, that in itself says alot about you! i hope you are drinking enough to keep those ketones at bay or maybe you are not eating enough, hence starvation ketones? hang in there cat, hoping for a better day for you. amy

"vanity"? actually, none of the minimed infusion sets worked for me and I tried the whole range, so I gave the omnipod a chance when it came out. Not sure if you're interested in the facts or just being "that guy", but I thought I'd clear that up

I think I'm gonna try to get the rep to come out but i'm not sure what she could do at this point. She's emailed me and offered as much. I'm back on monday, doc is gonna call today. She keeps stressing that I shouldn't be checking for ketones unless my BGs are very high but it's concerning to have ketones, isn't it?
Thanks for your support!

hi cat, jacob has only had ketones with a stomach bug, and when he is sustained high over 300 like with an occlusion, but they have turned around quickly with lots of fluids, IV fluids for the stomach bug :(. but i was doing some more research about it and it is normalish for diabetics to have low to mod ketones in the am ( "starvation" over night) or with low carb diets. keep drinking water. glad you will be home soon, i smirked at the vanity comment as well. actually vanity is part of the reason jacob is wearing an omnipod but that is related to his teenage insecurity. be strong! amy

Agreed. Vain people don't wear the pod because it sticks out like a lump wherever you stick it. I don't let it bother me but I'm not young and don't wear tight clothes either.

excellent point!

thanks for helping with the research! my doc has strictly forbidden me to check for ketones unless my blood sugar is well over 300, haha. Have a wonderful week!

Hey cat, I'm having issues this week with high blood sugars, and wondering if it's the pods. The last two mornings I've woke with blood sugars of 260, and running over 200 all day. I don't think it's the Apidra, but will try a new bottle and see if that helps. Hope we can both resolve these issues!

Sue, apidra expecially in Pods is known to have problems the third day. Lorraine changes her Caleb'spod every 2 days for that (http://thisiscaleb.com/2010/12/15/apidra%C2%AE-v-140-sanofi-aventis/ read first comments)

sue, I've read that in some of my research. I envy your control! I hope you figure it out.
