So i woke up this morning with my bg at 55, which seems to be a recurring thing. My basals are set to 1.2 from 9-am- 11 pm, and 1.0 while i sleep. I havnt gotten too crazy with my adjustments yet kinda in fear, but im open to suggestions.
I aim to have bgls around 7.5 mmol when I go to bed. With my basal rate, I end up around 5.5 mmol when I wake up. When I adjust my rates, I always make small changes and test, test, test over about three days to see how it works before making further adjustments.
I’ve recently been dealing with this problem too. I check my bg’s before I go to bed and check to see if there is any “active” insulin still in my body. If bg is below 110 or if there is active insulin still, I set a temporary basal for overnight or for a few hours and then wake up to check my bg again. Good luck!
I’ve had that problem also… I ended up dropping my overnite rate. It is at 0.7 at nite and my daytime rates are over twice that. Just make adjustments slowly, like 0.05 or 0.10 at a time every 2 or 3 days, and you’ll do fine. Once you get that overnite rate tuned in, it will be easier to get everything else set
Good luck!
So, say i take half a unit 30 minutes before i go to sleep. How long is that active?
… using apidra.
i use apidra and have my active time set to 3 hours, seems to work for me
Thanks, thats probably good to know lol
Active insulin depends on your sensitivity and if you are still producing insulin with your pancreas. I have my basal lowered from 1am to 6am and wake up fine. But waking up low or high can have many reasons. Try not to eat too close to bed time. I stop eating, even snacking before 2 hours I go to bed. That way, my last test is pretty much where I will wake up with my current basal rates.
Good luck and stay safe.
