Pernicious Anemia and Diabetes

So,how big a problem is this…and what happens if you have pernicious anemia?

That type of anemia is due to a deficiency of vitamin B12. Taking that vitamin can be a big help. There is a vitamin B12 patch that can be purchased too.

I have another type of anemia that is due to there not being enough red blood cells in my blood. I do not have a very bad case though and iron tablets will help me. I have had it before and the iron pills worked very well.

Good luck!

Richard

I have Pernicious Anemia as well as Diabetes.
I get a B12 injection once every month.
Got Diagnosed when I was 18.
I was very ill & ended up in hospital, where they ran all kinds of tests, trying to find out what was wrong & finally they did.
It took quite a while for the docor to get me built back up to the level I should be at.
Taking a vitamin pill of B12 was going to do nothing to help me.
I have to take B12 injections for the rest of my life, thats what the blood specialist told me,he also told me if I stop getting the injections, with in a few months,I would become very ill again & could even die.
So that was pretty scary.
Sincerely,
Linda

I have pernicious anemia. It was diagnosed several years before diabetes. I took B12 shots for a few years and then the doctor switched me to 1,000 mcg of B12 vitamins. I’ve been taking this for seeral years. This past month I had some blood work done. My B12 level was good but my hemoglobin was low, showing I am still anemic. The doctor put me on iron and I go back in 6 months to see if that is helping. I think I may really need to go back on the shots.
